🍕 PIZZA POSTPARTUM MATH

Who’s your slice and Grandma Square?!

If you can, have your go-to people around.

Ask your family and friends for support during postpartum.

Not help.

There’s a difference.

You can do the mothering part.
You don’t need someone to come in and take over.

You need support while YOU mother your baby. ❤️

So…

During pregnancy, ask your friends -your slices ;) if they want to be with you during this sweet and wild time.

What an honor to be asked!

And what about the Grandma Square?

Are you lucky enough to still have your grandparents around?
Your parents?
Your partner’s parents?

Talk to them before the baby comes about what postpartum support actually looks like.

A meal.
A load of laundry.
Holding the baby while you shower.
Feeding you while you feed the baby.
Checking in.
Bringing coffee.
Making some of the little decisions for you because they know you and love you.

Give the people who love you the chance to show up for you.

And maybe one of the sweetest parts?

This is how your baby starts meeting the people who love you, too. ❤️

Always remember...when it comes to pizza, a slice and a square warm with a root beer from the fountain, makes everything better. by @brooklynbirthshop

ONLY 2 SPOTS LEFT ❤️

Sunday Sessions
September 27th
Birth Education Class @brooklynbirthshop

We have a special guest joining us!

One of my absolute favorite
Labor & Delivery nurses from one of my favorite NYC hospitals will be there with us.
I want you to know what I've known for awhile now 🥰
Your L&D nurse becomes a HUGE part of your birth team and your heart!

They’re in the room with you.
They’re watching your labor unfold.
They’re helping you move, cope, rest and make decisions.
They’re communicating with your OB or midwife.
And a great nurse can make such a difference in how your birth feels.

What does your nurse wish you knew before you arrived?
What makes labor go more smoothly?
How can your partner work WITH your nurse?

Bring your belly baby and your questions!

2 spots left for September 27th!

How cute is my Dad and my
Newborn Care Class baby, Leon ❤️

Years ago I called my Dad crying because my real baby wouldn’t stop crying, and neither of us was sleeping.

He came over, took the baby, and told me to go to sleep.

He placed the baby on her belly across his chest, and I immediately said,
“Oh no! They say you can’t put babies on their bellies!”

He said, “Okay,” flipped her over, and said, “Go to sleep.”

He then started singing old-school war songs, and I said,
“Oh no, please don’t sing those songs.”

He said, “Okay,” started singing something else, and again said, “Go to sleep.”

I then went down a whole list of things, diapers, pacifiers, everything I could think of and he just patiently waited for me to finish.

Then he said,
“Kerri, go to sleep.”

What I hadn’t noticed was that from the moment Dad took Aelie Mae…she stopped crying.

We both slept for hours.

When I woke up, Dad was singing his war songs, and the baby was in his arms just looking at him.

I swear she was smiling. ❤️

I tell this story every now and then for so many reasons, but today’s reason is so you take a Newborn Care Class @brooklynbirthshop.

And maybe Bobby Evers will stop by and show you how he took care of 7,000 of us back in the day!

P.S. Leon is a baby reborn doll ;)
Had I had more babies I would have named my next boy Leon or Anton ❤️ by @brooklynbirthshop

If you want to _ _ _ _ up your labor.

Listen to EVERYONE. Read EVERYTHING

Get all the "information" so you feel prepared because "knowing everything" gives you...?
A sense of control.
Which helps YOU feel safe. I get it.

But NO ONE labors the same.
Knowing everyone else's experiences doesn't help...
Reading everything won't help either-
what it really does is keep you disconnected from your body and your baby.

Get out of your head and talk to your baby and body.
Get off FB, IG and TikTok and Reddit and stay away from AI -
Think about yourself as a little kid and the times you felt scared and nervous and remember how brave you were anyway!

Remember the times you convinced yourself you would fail or lose and how you didn't!!! You did awesome!!!
Look at who you are as a friend and daughter and sweetheart and how you show up for people!

That's how your labor will go!
You labor from your heart and body!!!

Stop outsourcing your built-in strength and knowing ❤️

Holy Hydration!!!!

Nearly everyone thinks they drink enough water or they don't because think it's why they have to use the bathroom so much! Either way, you're definitely close to or for sure dehydrated.

Almost every ache and pain or discomfort in pregnancy can be linked to dehydration.
Your body is working OVERTIME!

Water isn't enough either.
Find a great clean electrolyte!

Here's a recipe that's been used by people for decades.
Homemade Pregnancy Electrolyte

For 32 oz / about 1 liter of water:

* 32 oz water
* ¼ teaspoon salt — sea salt or @redmondlife salt
* 2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice
* 1–2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
* Optional: ¼ cup orange juice or coconut water for a little extra potassium.

For women with GD try

For everyday hydration, you can make it essentially sugar-free:

* 32 oz / 1 liter water
* ¼ teaspoon salt
* Fresh lemon or lime juice to taste
* Optional stevia or monk fruit for sweetness
Stevia and monk fruit sweeten the drink without adding meaningful carbohydrate.

Also -Hydration tips, not medical advice 💦 Always check with your provider.
Doula talk, not doctor talk
Check with your care team.
Just sharing hydration ideas, not prescribing anything. by @brooklynbirthshop

 Look closely.

Yep.

This is what happens when you go with your friend’s suggestion because the postpartum rooms were nice or the 5 ⭐️ reviews without actually interviewing your provider…
Did you know you could do that? Sure you want to quickly make sure everything is ok, but you don't have to stay!

You want to "interview" providers

TO ASK THE QUESTIONS!

When you don't ask the questions you lose your autonomy and your strength.

Girl, haven’t you worked hard enough to get here!?

You’ll say things like:

“This is my first time having a baby. I don’t know anything.”

You start to think…my provider is the expert of my body, when they shouldn’t be.

No one should be except YOU.

Don’t know what questions to ask?

That’s why you ask a doula!

Check out @brooklynbirthshop and book a session with a seasoned doula who can help you find not just the BEST provider, but the best nurses and hospital for YOU!

It all matters! ❤️

Photo story time!
This haircut was done by someone my Mom thought was amazing simply because he wore pink and sparkles and his name was Junior.
Bay Ridge didn't know what hit them...all the white ladies adored him! He adored their husbands 🥰
If I added gel to my bangs I had @sirrodstewart haircut
Mom and Junior LOVED it! by @brooklynbirthshop

You like your pizza hot with garlic powder.
I like mine warm and plain.

You want an epidural.
I want to have a baby in my apartment.

You be you.
I’ll be me.

Birth is wild.
Birth is hard.
Birth is life-changing no matter how it happens.

What matters most is being supported, respected, and loved for who you are as you bring new life into the world.

Epidurals are dope.
Home births are incredible.
Cesarean births are beautiful.
Inductions are awesome.
None of it's easy. But you got this!

That’s the kind of birth education we believe in.
This is what we share @brooklynbirthshop

Take a birth class that’s going to teach you all the ways you can have a baby.
But the most important part is ...
You being you...because that's who the baby is coming to meet!

Limited summer classes, book yours now!
