Announcing the Resonance Residency Fundraiser! 📣

Brooklyn Metal Works is fundraising to launch the Resonance Residency, a program offering jewelry artists at every level of their career an opportunity to develop their studio practice.

To welcome the initial cohort of artists in residence, we are fundraising through selections of specialty publications from Helen Drutt Gallery (@helendrutt) as well as accepting sustaining donations in correspondence with different features of the residency.

We are extremely grateful for our community’s support in implementing the Resonance Residency! Any amount contributed towards our first tier goal of $20,000 to support our first three jewelry artists in residence is greatly appreciated.

To donate now, visit bkmetalworks.com/resonance-residency 🌟

@materialsmithing Kerianne Quick confronts our complacency with gun violence in “Oh Well. Whatever. Nevermind.”

The exhibition at @brooklynmetalworks features large — but very light — neckpieces in leather, scarred by titanium “wounds.”

The title comes from @nirvana_official__ “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

An installation hangs from the ceiling with 300 crosshair pins made of titanium.

Black shrouded “mirrors” of plexiglass and leather explore mourning traditions.

A beautifully understated and thought-provoking exhibition, through Nov. 8.

💎 Anonymous Brooklyn
📅 Exhibition 16–21 | Reception Sat, Nov 21
📍 @brooklynmetalworks | 640 Dean St, Brooklyn
💫 In Person | Exhibition

No names, just jewelry. All week, artists are invited to bring one piece to Brooklyn Metal Works and hang it on the gallery wall themselves — masked, anonymous, with nothing but a small nail and a hammer. Whoever hangs first gets first pick of placement, and the wall grows from there — over, under, wherever the next piece finds room. It's a self-directed accumulation that keeps shifting all week, building toward one night where the full wall comes together.

Artists can offer their piece for sale, and if it sells, the buyer is the only person who will ever know who made it.

Brooklyn Metal Works is a non-ferrous metal art studio built around shared workspace, hands-on classes, and an exhibition series that puts metalsmithing and jewelry artists in dialogue with one another — Anonymous Brooklyn is where that spirit shows up most.

Open to all artists — Installation runs Mon-Fri 11 AM-6 PM through Saturday, Nov 21 till 5 PM. Reception is Saturday, Nov. 22, 6-9 PM. More on this one in the weeks to come.

In The Gallery at Brooklyn Metal Works is please to announce Kerianne Quick | OH WELL, WHATEVER, NEVERMIND, an exhibition confronting the machinery of violence and the apathy that allows it to become ordinary.

Taking its title from a lyric in Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, the exhibition brings together three distinct but interconnected series: OH WELL, body armor-inspired leather and titanium jewelry that transforms ballistic wounds into objects of adornment; WHATEVER, an installation of 300 titanium crosshair pins that implicates the wearer as both target and witness; and NEVERMIND, black-shrouded leather and plexiglass mirrors that turn reflection into an act of mourning, shame, and culpability. Together, the works ask what it means to protect, enhance, and repair the body in a culture that manufactures its destruction—and what it means to look away.

Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, September 26th, from 7-9pm!

Senior BFA Metal student Mia Ferraro @4rtby_mia completed an internship this summer @brooklynmetalworks! While there, they worked extensively on this sample board of transparent enamel tiles, learned a great deal about clarity and mesh size with sifting transparent vitreous enamel, as well as experimenting with torch fired enamel applications with opaque vs transparent enamel. Mia also worked on studio maintenance and upkeep (cue the first photo 😅), and was able to work in the classroom as a teaching assistant (last photo is of student pieces made in the class Mia assisted).

“…I am grateful for the studio culture I was able to be a part of at Brooklyn Metal Works… My favorite skill that I developed this summer was my problem solving skills. I feel that I grew as a teacher and a student in my craft”

Big thanks to BKMW for all you do to create space for others, and mentoring the next generation of metalsmiths. 🤘❤️
