“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:4 I have so much to say about this day, but I could never get it all out in one caption. The pure joy and peace that poured over me when I came out of this water is hard to describe. You can’t see the tears in these pictures, but they were there. Two weeks ago, I made a public declaration of my faith. I’ve been a Christian for as long as I can remember, but I’ve always put off getting baptized. I kept thinking “I’ll wait until I get my life together and until I feel like I’m really on track with the Lord”. Each time I almost felt ready, something would happen, or I would fall short, and I’d change my mind. I never felt good enough or ready to take that next step. It took me 19 years to realize that was exactly the point. I was never going to be “ready” or live up to the standards I deemed good enough. I fall short every single day and that will never change. I’ll never deserve a God who waits for me with open arms despite my every shortcoming… and that is exactly why I need Jesus, exactly why He chose to bear my sin and my burdens and allow me to become a new creation in Him. Over the course of the past year, I’ve developed a relationship with Jesus that I didn’t know was possible before I started truly pursuing Him and His purpose for my life. I’ve talked with Him, cried to Him, been angry at Him, and discovered His sense of humor. I’ve learned so much (and still have much more to discover), but most importantly, I’ve come to understand His heart and how FULL of love and grace it is. I’ve seen how embracing Him brings unexplainable joy and peace to my life and how my mindset shifts when I stay focused on Him. I won’t be perfect, and I’ve been able to accept that, but I could not be more excited to continue learning and pursuing a relationship with Jesus. I have always been a daughter of the king of kings, and I am so grateful that I was able to take this step of obedience towards deepening my faith.
