If you’re new here, start here. 🤍

Permanent makeup isn’t one-size-fits-all—and neither is my approach.

Some of my clients want soft and subtle. Others want a transformation you can see. Neither is wrong.

The goal is to create brows that make sense for your face, your style, and the way you want to show up.

20+ years in the beauty industry and six years specializing in permanent makeup have taught me that good brow work isn’t just about mastering a technique.

It’s knowing what to do, where to do it, and how far to take it.

Currently serving my established New Jersey clientele + preparing to bring Brows by Lys to the Wilmington, NC area.

Not sure which brow style fits you? Start with my Brow Quiz in the link in my bio.

Why am I still struggling with ombré brows after training?

You’ve taken the class. You’ve practiced. You know the steps.

But when your fronts come out too dark, your pixels aren’t showing, or one brow looks better than the other… do you actually know what’s causing it?

Or are you just making another pass and hoping it works out?

That’s the part of permanent makeup training we don’t talk about enough.

Knowing how to perform a technique and knowing how to troubleshoot it are two completely different skills.

And the cost of not understanding your work goes beyond money.

It’s second-guessing yourself during an appointment.

It’s going home wondering whether those brows will heal the way you intended.

It’s wanting to raise your prices but not feeling confident enough in your results to do it.

More practice can help. But repeating the same mistake without understanding what’s causing it? That’s not progress.

That’s why I believe advanced PMU education should teach you more than what to do.

You should understand why you’re doing it, what to look for, and how to adjust when something isn’t working.

I call it Find the Gap.

Identify what’s going wrong. Understand why. Make intentional adjustments. Evaluate the results.

That’s the philosophy behind my 3-Day Advanced Ombré Intensive, November 15–17 in New Jersey.

For artists who are ready to stop relying on guesswork and start developing the skills to troubleshoot their own work.

Applications are open through the link in my bio.

How many PMU trainings do you need before taking clients?

There isn’t a magic number.

And more certifications don’t automatically make you a better artist.

What matters is whether you can take what you’ve learned and actually apply it.

Can you evaluate your results? Recognize when something isn’t working? Understand what needs to change?

Because here’s where a lot of artists get stuck.

They keep investing in more techniques when what they may actually need is a better understanding of the ones they’ve already learned.

So before signing up for another training, ask yourself:

What am I actually trying to improve?

Maybe it’s more intentional practice. Maybe it’s feedback, mentorship, or a training that helps you understand the mechanics behind your technique.

The point isn’t to stop learning.

It’s to make sure your education is moving you forward.

Why do I still feel unsure after permanent makeup training?

You understood everything in class. You practiced. You took notes. You know what you’re supposed to be doing.

But then you get real skin in front of you… and you start second-guessing yourself.

Is it my pressure? My hand speed? My stretch? My needle? Am I going too deep? Not deep enough?

That’s where a lot of artists get stuck.

And usually the next thought is:
Maybe I need another training...

But more information doesn’t automatically create better execution.

Sometimes there’s one gap in what you’re doing that’s throwing everything else off, and if you don’t know what that gap is, you don’t know what you’re actually supposed to practice.

Find the gap first. Then practice the gap.

If you’ve ever felt like you should know this by now but still find yourself second-guessing your work, save this.

I’m breaking down some of the most common gaps I see in artists over the next few weeks. 🤍 taken in New Jersey/ New York by @browsbylys_

How do you know when it’s time for a permanent makeup brow refresh?

It’s not just because a year has passed.

When one of my OG clients came back almost 4 years after her original microblading, THIS is exactly what I wanted to see…soft, faded pigment with plenty of skin showing underneath.

That fading matters.

Permanent makeup isn’t meant to look freshly done forever, and I don’t want to keep packing pigment into skin that isn’t ready for more.

I’d rather have you wait until your brows have faded enough for me to safely bring the definition back than refresh them simply because another year has passed.

Her healed results gave me a beautiful canvas to work with again.

Four years later. Same client. Fresh set of Brows by Lys. 🤎

NJ CLIENTS: My next New Jersey dates will be announced to my waitlist first.

I don’t open group trainings often…and that’s intentional.

When I teach, I want it intimate enough for me to actually teach…to watch what you’re doing, correct you, answer your questions, and help you understand the why behind the technique.

Because becoming a stronger artist isn’t about memorizing movements. It’s understanding WHY you’re making each decision.

This November, I’m opening just 4 seats for my 3-Day Advanced Ombré Training in New Jersey.

You’ll go deeper into mapping + design, color theory, skin types, needle & cartridge theory, technique, corrections, and hands-on model work, with direct guidance from me throughout the training.

November 15–17 | New Jersey
Early Registration: $3,300 — ends TONIGHT
Regular Tuition: $3,500
Payment plans available.

I haven’t opened a group training in a long time, and I don’t know when I’ll open the next one 😉

If you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to train with me, this is your invitation.

You’ve practiced. You’ve taken clients. Maybe you’ve even taken another training.

But you’re still second-guessing your work.

One brow heals beautifully. Another comes back patchy.
Your outline disappears after the first wipe.
Your pixels look beautiful on latex…but you can’t always recreate them consistently in skin.

And the most frustrating part?

Sometimes you don’t even know what you’re doing wrong.

There’s a point in your career where taking another training just to learn another technique isn’t necessarily what you need.

Sometimes you need to go back and figure out where the gap actually is.

That’s why I created my 3-Day Advanced Ombré Intensive.
Not to throw more information at you.

To slow things down.
To watch how you work.
To troubleshoot with you.
To help you understand the why behind what you’re seeing…so you can begin making those decisions for yourself.

Because after 6+ years in this industry and thousands of clients later, one of the biggest things I’ve learned is this:

Advanced doesn’t mean you never have a problem.
It means you know how to troubleshoot one.

📍 New Jersey · November 15–17
Early Enrollment open through September 30.

The word “semi-permanent” is exactly where the confusion starts.

Yes, permanent makeup is a form of tattooing. But that doesn’t mean your brows will look exactly the same forever.

PMU is intended to soften and fade over time, but “fade” and “completely disappear” are two different things.

How your brows heal and age can depend on your skin, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare, pigment, technique, medications and how often you refresh them.

And I think clients deserve to understand that before they decide to get permanent makeup…not years later.

Being nervous about permanence doesn’t automatically mean PMU isn’t for you. It means you should know exactly what you’re saying yes to.

Would knowing PMU is a tattoo make you MORE hesitant, or does it not bother you? by @browsbylys_
