My hometown of Isabela, Puerto Rico held a palo encebao (greased pole) event today, and it was such an embodiment of the beautiful fun-loving Puerto Rican culture, especially with Bomba y Plena music and dancing. They had a lateral pole for the kids, and a vertical one for the adults. I friggin love this island and it's rich culture! ☺️🇵🇷🏝✨️💦🎶🌿🌅🇵🇷 taken in Villa Pesquera, Isabela PR by @brpr88

I AM GRATEFUL to have had the most magical experiences yesterday at one of my favorite beaches. Went to Punta Borinquen, just over an hour before sunset, we notice one lone but determined baby sea turtle making his way from the rocky side of the beach towards the water. It was so surreal and magical, and I knew it was just the beginning of what was to come. About 20min later, a hole in the sand just a foot across begins erupting with baby sea turtles. A writhing mass, wriggling their way towards the light, then immediately towards the ocean.
This tiny geyser of baby sea turtles lasted over 30min as a long stringing trail of flopping turtle bodies evolved between the nest and the water. A path defined by these beautiful brushstroke-like indentations in the sand from the dozens of fins sliding little shells along. I was absolutely amazed at their sheer determination and willpower. From the moment the broke through their shells over 3 feet deep in sand, those lil buggers were in an absolutely relentless pursuit of their intuitive goal. Worming their way towards the surface, with no light to guide them, flopping and sliding their way, with their inept little fins over 100 feet of pockmarked sand, then getting rocked and often washed back on shore several times in the breaking shoreline before finally being carried out into the ocean depths.
I've been reflecting a lot since on the profound beauty of the natural world and how magical the creation of life is, and that we get to experience it. I've also found a number of analogies. The most powerful being, watching something so young, vulnerable, and seemingly inept pursue a goal, guided by deep intuitive knowing, with such willpower and determination, and seeing that success is possible despite seemingly insurmountable adversities.
Truly humbling and so beautifully powerful to witness. And 88 total baby turtles (also my lucky number) all achieving their journey to the ocean. Having that experience was a bucket-list item since living in Puerto Rico, and one that money can't buy. I am blessed.
