What the doctors said was a death sentence… God overturned!

Pastor @brucechant experienced what doctors described as witnessing a “once in your career” heart attack. He consciously walked into the emergency department while having a fatal heart attack.

Today, he stands as a living testimony of God’s resurrecting healing power and the prayers that carried him through.

Eleven days ago I almost died.

On Sunday August 11th we finished up our 5pm service @kingdomcityperth Butler and my heart felt strange. I wasn’t in pain but I was in some discomfort. And it wasn’t getting better.

I thought with some rest the racing in my chest would subside, but eventually gave in to the (good) advice to go to ED.

I walked in feeling rough and they took me straight in. My heart was running at over 230 bpm. And it maxed out at 270. Eventually I needed the defibrillator to shock me back into rhythm. Minutes later I was feeling good again.

I naively thought that was the end of that drama, I would be released and get on with life. It turns out I was very wrong. The quest to find the problem spanned ultrasounds, blood tests, xrays, CT scans and MRIs. The cause of the VT episode was diagnosed as ARVC - Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy.

For any European football fans, it is the same issue that caused Denmark’s Christian Eriksen to collapse (and be revived) on the pitch during Euro 2021.

It turns out my case was somewhat of a rarity. As the Cardiologist told me on the Sunday night, most people in my situation collapse due to loss of blood flow to the brain and unless they get immediate help most don’t regain consciousness. And so it is rare for someone to walk in whilst in conscious VT such as I did.

All throughout the last 11 days I have felt carried by the love and prayers of so many people, near and far. Incredibly I believe I was protected in those moments before I went into VT when Ps @jemimav prayed for me at the altar. It is undoubtedly what I believe kept me conscious through it all and safely through to the medical care I needed.

Like Christian Eriksen I now have an ICD implanted in my chest. If he can play Premier League with his, I can keep doing all I am doing with mine.

Thank you to everyone who texted, called, visited, provided my family with meals and helped out in any way. Especially our incredible @kingdomcity family & Ps Mark and Jem. We love you and thank God for you. The best is still to come.❤️

We have purchased the block of land next door to the Butler campus! That means double the footprint, double the capacity, and room for hundreds more people in the northern suburbs to encounter God.

Look at what the Lord has done!!

It was an absolute joy to witness and play a part in the baptisms of over 800 people yesterday with our church family @kingdomcityperth.

Good Friday is a special day, but honestly being in the water of the Swan in front of the city I have grown up in, baptising person after person - each one a trophy of Gods grace - in was overwhelming in the best possible way.

So thankful to Jesus for it all 😭❤️

Man United! Our first @kingdomcity Men’s Conference is in the books.

Across two days over 1000 men from all over the city of Perth gathered together. It was so impactful for so many men. God did something deep through Dr @leifhetland, who carries such a unique grace!

Such incredible memories of our Tokyo boys trip with our first born @judahchant

Loved the experience of exploring this incredible city, the food, the sights, the lights, the heights, the vintage Carhartt stores, and monster daily step count. Love you son. Would do it again in a heart beat ❤️❤️
