Fantastic poetry reading in Shizuoka by Tori Kudo (or was it MSHB ? many well known and loved members were there) , felt more like an opera, with one poem going at fast pace after another, sometimes a full song, sometimes a half life from a pop hit, a reading in french by Veronique, many music sheets being deciphered and thrown on the ground, bgm operated by the faithful and serious Kayo... i will tag all the wonderful performers a bit later. いつもありがとうございます 'the last part of my life' is also a best time ! by @bruit_direct_disques

Mystery Planes present a special Sunday afternoon matinee show to fulfil all your autumnal punk rock yearnings

Sunday 1 November, 2 til 6pm, upstairs at Walthamstow Trades Hall

THEE RETAIL SIMPS
All the way from Montreal, Canada! What if the Velvet Underground had written ‘Wooly Bully’ and Sam The Sham ‘Sister Ray?’ If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or If Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail Simp’s mind. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones are 4 well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. As the returns for REAL rock n roll diminish exponentially, so do the Retail Simps expectations, however, like the pious Eunuchs of Sumeria, their mission and core spirit remains strongly in tact: Get it or don’t, they’re on a mission.

UNMARRY ME
A triangular shaped group, comprising of Lise Frances, Jon Slade and Chris Rowley. London to Brighton and back again. Unmarry Me are a group that have been together for about 6 months in a world at war and in trouble. Unmarry Me are therefore a group trying to carve out some joy and light as form of resistance, no small feat, and maybe grandiose but worth the stating. Unmarry Me Is comprised of personnel who have all had time or continue to have time in other groups who did not take easy routes or money and didn’t make many friends, so it goes. These groups respectively or chronologically were and are Huggy Bear, Comet Gain, I’m Being Good, Help She Can’t Swim, Snoozers and Adulkt Life. Unmarry Me! are about bending, queering, breaking and resetting rules, smudging boundaries and in the main having a lot of excellent fun!!

MIDNIGHT MINES
Thee resident collektiv - avant-garage clang meets improvised chaos. ‘Feel I’m Slipping Away Now’ LP out now on US label Minimum Table Stacks

Plus tape collage DJ set in between acts from the Major Trauma Sound System by @bruit_direct_disques

THEE RETAIL SIMPS absolutely slayed last night in London on the first night of their UK jaunt. They’re in Bristol tonight on an all-killer-no-filler bill with Bruno Bomp and Gimic, then all over the UK in the coming days. They are BACK in London though next Sunday, winding up their little tour with a Sunday afternoon matinee performance at Mystery Planes Number 15, upstairs at Walthamstow Trades Hall. Also on the bill are UNMARRY ME, amazing new band featuring members of Huggy Bear and Help She Can’t Swim, check their wicked new 12” on Bruit Direct Disques, which I *think* this is the launch party for. Opening up proceedings are MIDNIGHT MINES, playing some stuff from their forthcoming fourth LP. 2pm til 6pm, 1 November, advance tickets available from Ticketlab but move quick because the room is TINY. by @bruit_direct_disques

Unmarry Me "Lions in autumn" LP (bruit direct disques)

Anyone who is (regretfully) aware of some deep My Favorite lore, may know that @huggybearband 'Weaponry Listens To Love,' was a super important record to me as we began our journey as a band in the mid-90s.

As an artist I have always been more influenced by a group's sense of invention, intention, defiance than by a particular sound or scene. To change was to escape. And to escape was to survive. Thus I think we were destined to bend genres and shift shapes. But we could never have risen out the bleak, suffocating suburbs of Long Island without the 'esprit de corps,' that certain indie pop records offered us. Instead of a world that never was, these records and zines made us feel like we were entering a world that *just might be*.

A world worth fighting for.

Between two incarnations of My Favorite and five years with The Secret History, I have now been lugging around some form of this dream with me for over 30 years. I can't tell if it's getting heavier or my back is just getting weaker. But at this age, each show, each release feels quasi-miraculous—like pulling away from the gravity of a dying star.

So just when I need a little extra will comes this remarkable new release by Unmarry Me via @bruit_direct_disques. Featuring Jon & Chris from Huggy Bear, along with Lise Frances— this is an unpredictable, uncategorizable group of songs which are, once again, giving me life.

Including an zine full of art and ideas in 2026 feels far more radical then retro. Unscannable, Unsimulable. Passed between the bars of the panopticon.

Once again these cats are helping me believe I can finish what we are working on. And even more importantly— that we should. That every spark in the dark matters. Every whisper you can discern from the maddening hiss of static. That we can stay gold as all goes grey. by @bruit_direct_disques

Tomorrow tune in Doute at East Village Radio, the Timelords say 8am NYC, 2pm Paris, Johannesburg same, Maputo same, Khartoum same, Kaliningrad same

TIME by @bruit_direct_disques

I’ve been banging on so much about the Retail Simps coming to the UK that I haven’t yet given any proper attention to our other guest at Mystery Planes Number 15, UNMARRY ME, who I am very happy to be putting on.

Chris Rowley has been inspiring me for literally decades, even in the mythical lost years when it seemed like he had disappeared off the face of the earth. If you’d told me as a fifteen year old buying a copy of the ‘Rubbing The Impossible To Burst’ 45 from BPM on Granby Street in Leicester that he would re-appear in my Adulkt Life in a totally different and unexpected context then I’m pretty sure my teenage head would have exploded all over the pavement. His new band is amazing, and here is Jon Dale who can explain the new group concept better than I can:

“Unmarry Me is the unholy trinity of Lise Frances (Help She Can’t Swim), Jon Slade (Huggy Bear, Snoozers) and Chris Rowley (also Huggy Bear, Adulkt Life). They formed in 2025, so their music currently maps territory between possibility and impossibility, wild confidence and creative uncertainty. It’s formative music, still putting itself together as you’re listening, which makes it thrilling, unstable, slightly threatening; as though they’re stealthily shadowing you as you listen, urging you to notice the new in the way they pull together electronics, beats, loops, soundbeds, spoken voices, sung lungs.

I don’t want to box Unmarry Me in with too many comparisons or precursors, but if you’ve found yourself loving Flaming Tunes, The Vitamin B12, Rimarimba, Inca Eyeball, or the uncompromisingly surreal worlds created by labels like It’s War Boys! or Cordelia Records – well, those are some curious parallels, partly correct, partly dreamt.”

Their afternoon matinee show, upstairs at Walthamstow Trades Hall on Sunday 1 November, will also be the record release party for their new 5-track 12”, Lions In Autumn, on Bruit Direct Disques feom Paris, wfuch comes with a 28 page (!) full colour zine, put together by the band.

Advance tickets available from ticketlab
