Hi, I’m Tayla—the photographer and slightly chaotic creative behind Brush & Shutter 💙💜 I have a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Digital Media and Criminology, over five years of photography experience and a background spanning design, marketing, web development, fashion and set creation. Brush & Shutter became the place where I could bring all those interests together and turn the strange little worlds in my head into something real. For a long time, though, both my brand and wardrobe stayed hidden behind black, beige and “safe.” I realised I wasn’t dressing like myself—I was dressing for depression and the version of me that wanted to disappear. So, this is my brighter, bolder and slightly weirder era. I’m not leaving the alternative black-cat girl behind; I’m simply letting her have more fun. Some designs make you look twice and Natalie Hamblin’s work is always on that list for me. 🤍 I love how her designs use texture and shape to create something that feels bold, even in an all-white look. The layers, dramatic shoulders and movement in this piece gave me so much to capture at the Island Haus runway. As a photographer, it’s exciting to see how a garment changes with each step: the silhouette, the way the light catches the details, and those brief moments when everything falls into place. The first thing I noticed was how confidently she carried this look. Then I started seeing all the details. The wide sleeves floated as she walked, the gold trim caught the light, and the necklace gave the whole design a strong focal point. Even the small flower in her hair had its place. I loved how Ollymacs brought so many elements together while letting the model’s presence shine through. Some designs make you want to get closer, and this was one of them. From the side, I caught the layers of flowers, ribbon and gold. From the front, the pearl strands framed her face and changed the whole feel of the look. It was such a beautiful piece to photograph because each angle held another detail. I don’t know the story Olga had in mind for this design yet, but I’d love to hear it. That’s the thing about her work: it leaves you curious. This one felt like watching a flower open on the runway 🤍 At first, I was drawn to the shape of the headpiece. Then she turned, and the petals across the skirt began to move with her. Every step showed a different side of the design: soft and delicate, but impossible to miss. That’s what I love about photographing Ollymacs. There’s always more to discover once a piece is in motion.
