Lots of fun with this crew at my last beginner’s workshop of the summer! 🖌️🌞

I am humbled by the fact that only one of these 13 people lives in Portland, the other 12 traveled here from different cities just to attend this workshop. Most of them are staying for the 4-day intensive to continue into the intermediate class tomorrow.

It makes me incredibly happy and proud to see people traveling from so far away to learn with me and to see the work I get to do as an instructor come to life.

We had a good go at it, and judging by the looks on their faces, I think they had a pretty good time doing it too! 😃

Back at it tomorrow for the intermediate class!

I got to paint some lettering on this beautiful Chevy for @revival_drum_shop 🥁

Jose was looking for something to complete these doors, originally lettered by @jeffreysincich a few years ago. Even though it’s a small detail, I think it really brings the whole design together and gives it that classic truck-lettering feel.🖌️✨

On #worldphotographyday, a collection from my current obsession: neon signs I’ve shot on film with my Kodak Ektar half-frame camera 🎞️📸

The theme for this year is “Home” so all of these are from the Pacific Northwest, which has been my home for the past 4 years.

I love how these are turning out, and I’m hoping to have enough soon to put out a small publication and some riso printed postcards 📚

Un Bob Esponja colgando de un carrito de completos, tags de grafiteros locales y las miles de pinceladas que le daban identidad a las antiguas micros amarillas. Ese fue el ecosistema visual que educó el ojo de Bryan Yonki mucho antes de emigrar a Estados Unidos y fundar Well Done Signs. Artista, rotulador y defensor de los procesos lentos, su recorrido partió desde la calle y la intuición: observar las tipografías locales y entender rápidamente que lo artesanal posee una sensibilidad inalcanzable ante cualquier vinilo impreso. Hoy, el rotulismo es su respuesta directa frente a la homogeneización de las ciudades, la inteligencia artificial y el individualismo.

En esta conversación, Bryan profundiza en el camino que lo llevó desde la periferia santiaguina hasta abrir su propio taller en Portland. Habla abiertamente del valor de la comunidad, su tajante postura contra el gatekeeping y cómo este oficio le permitió abrirse paso de forma honesta como inmigrante. Una conversación sobre la urgencia de alejarse de las pantallas, abrazar el error y la convicción de que un letrero pintado a pulso tiene el poder de cambiar por completo la experiencia de habitar un lugar.
