Two sons. One mission.

We lost Ethan to Coats Plus Syndrome at just four years old. His big brother, Liam, continues to face the same rare disease. Our love for both of them drives everything we do.

Through the Coats Plus Foundation, we’re bringing families, researchers, and our community together to help advance treatments and work toward a cure.

Every conversation, every event, and every person who joins us helps carry this mission forward. We want more than awareness. We want more time, more possibilities, and more moments with the children we love.

For Ethan’s memory. For Liam’s future. For every family facing Coats Plus.

Help us keep moving forward. Follow, share, and learn how to support our mission at CoatsPlus.org. 💚

THEM: “Man, Bryan, you seem so grounded. How do you handle it all?”

ME: “This. Right here.” 🕺🐶

Find joy wherever you are. And when you can’t find it, create it.

Sometimes, it’s as simple as dancing in the dining room with your dog. ❤️ by @bryandocobo

Everyday, my mission in this lifetime 🌍feels bigger than me and my family. Today, it’s for kids like Wyatt, who would have turned 21 years old, and for his mother, Laura, in St. Louis. It’s for fathers like Donte, who is actively witnessing and fighting some of the toughest manifestations of this disease in his 16-year-old son, D.J.

Laura and Donte were among the first parents we connected with on this journey. Together, we became co-founders of the Coats Plus Foundation, built in honor of our children and out of a shared determination to change what the future of this disease looks like.

These aren’t just families we met along the way. They are part of the reason this mission exists.

Every morning, I wake up with one goal: move the needle forward.

On November 13, we are incredibly proud to host the first-of-its-kind Coats Plus Foundation Online Symposium, bringing together physicians and researchers from across the country who have experience treating the complex manifestations of Coats Plus.

But this symposium is about more than sharing what we already know. It’s about bringing the right people together, connecting the dots, and figuring out what comes next.

We now have a pediatric vascular gene-editing physician and researcher willing to work toward creating a bespoke gene therapy for Liam 🧬 — something that once felt impossible to even say out loud.

There is an enormous amount of work that has to happen before we can get there. Research. Collaboration. Funding. Learning everything we can from the children and families living this disease every single day.

Because when you know a mother who should be celebrating her son’s 21st birthday today, and a father fighting alongside his 16-year-old through some of the most difficult manifestations of this disease, there is no time to waste.

The parents and children in these pictures helped build the Coats Plus Foundation and gave this mission its purpose. I am forever indebted to them and honored to fight alongside them.

For Liam. For Wyatt. For D.J. For Ethan. For every child fighting Coats Plus today, and for every family who comes after us. We keep moving the needle forward. And we don’t stop 💙 by @bryandocobo

My entire life, I dreamed of being a father. It’s the reason behind so many of the decisions I’ve made. Going to college and law school. Getting married. Buying a home in a good school district. Working hard to build a good life. All of it was part of a bigger picture I had in my mind of what I wanted my life to look like.

Fatherhood was always the WHY.

I was blessed with two incredible boys. One is in spirit, and one I’m fighting every day to keep here.

I used to wonder why parents spent so much money on school pictures when we already had thousands of photos of our kids on our phones. I didn’t get it. But now I do.

It’s not really about the picture. It’s about freezing a moment in time. A school year. A smile. The way they looked at this age. A little piece of childhood that you can hold in your hands long after that chapter of life has passed.

As parents, we spend so much time looking ahead, working toward the future, and trying to give our kids the best life possible. Sometimes we forget how much we’ll miss the ordinary moments we’re living right now.

These pictures mean more to me than I ever could have imagined.

Because being their dad was never just one part of my life. It was always the whole point.

And I don’t take a single moment of it for granted. by @bryandocobo

A night I’ll never forget.

Two nights ago at an old school cinema in downtown Ft. lauderdale, the nostalgic smell of popcorn 🍿 in the air, Danielle @danie28263 and I sat down to watch 30 minutes of raw interview footage from the documentary being made about our story by the multi-talented @timothymarkdavis.

Witnessing pieces of our life on a screen — the hardest moments, the people who have walked alongside us, the loss, the fight, the marital conflict, spiritual awakening components and everything that led us here — was an experience that’s hard to put into words.

We also had the opportunity to hear feedback and input from a group of people, essentially all strangers and some with filmmaking knowledge and background who watched alongside us. Their perspective, honesty, and support meant more than they probably realize.

There are so many elements that go into telling a story like ours: story structure, legal implications, building trust, etc. Tim spent time articulating. Seeing it begin to take shape was surreal.

For Danielle and me, this was a core memory.

There’s still a long road ahead before this documentary is finished, but two nights ago made it feel very real and reminded me why we’re telling this story in the first place. #documentaryfilm #rarediseaseawareness #corememories #lifemission by @bryandocobo

Hats off to PT, OT and STs (physical, occupational and speech therapists) everywhere. I don’t have as much time as I’d like to watch weekly therapy sessions but when I do, I’m always amazed.

✔️ Figured it was probably time for a reintroduction 📢

I’m Bryan.

Husband. Dad. Attorney. Entrepreneur. Founder. And, depending on the day, a bunch of other things. (My past self would insert an inappropriate joke here, but alas, we grow…)

For most of my life, I focused on building a career, a marriage, making money, and creating a good life.

Then we had kids, and life got complicated.

My wife and I had two boys, Liam and Ethan. Then we received a life-shortening rare disease diagnosis for both and we quickly understood if a cure was to exist, it would be up to us to find it.

Our family has spent years navigating this disease, hospitals, specialists, research, clinical trials, and conversations no parent ever wants to have.

In 2024, we lost our youngest son, Ethan, at four years old.

That changed me.

I don’t think something like that ever really leaves you. You just learn how to carry it.

For me, part of carrying it has been building. We founded the Coats Plus Foundation, developing relationships with researchers, physicians, scientists, and biotech professionals working toward better treatments and a cure.

And trying to make sure that one day, every parent in our situation is told, “There is someone, somewhere, working on it.”

I’m still an attorney and entrepreneur, increasingly interested in biotechnology, personalized medicine, longevity, investing, and what happens when good science 🧬 meets people willing to push it forward.

I’ve also spent a lot of time thinking about meaning, fatherhood, leadership, and what it means to be strong when life doesn’t go according to plan.

That’s why I co-founded LuMENary Tribe: a place to heal, bond, and build up other men.

Men showing up for one another cannot be overstated. It’s a large part of why I’m still here.

I dream of a day when that’s simply the standard—when no man has to carry everything alone.

My focus is on what I can control: showing up for my family, honoring Ethan, caring for Liam, and building things that will matter long after I’m gone.

I don’t have it all figured out. I’m just trying to make the most of what I’ve been given. by @bryandocobo
