This week I sat down with my friend @bjanecka07. I have been blessed to know Brandon for nearly a decade as he was my son Sammy’s sports performance coach @truegrindsystems . We discussed athletic development but also entrepreneurship and he dropped this expression someone shared with him. Sadly, we have both experienced this reality. taken in Round Rock, Texas by @bryangroks

Great Founder’s Forum this morning with @seobrien_economist at the Round Rock Chamber talking about Startup Ecosystems. You should definitely pick up a copy of his book. Even though this morning I didn’t get the chance to have Paul sign it, but hopefully next time I see you? taken in Round Rock, Texas by @bryangroks

My gut usually knows first. The data tells me whether it was right 📊

Part 1 from an Owners on Owners session with some sharp entrepreneurs. We got into how I
actually make decisions, and the part nobody talks about: going from a 13-hour workday
straight into dad mode with zero transition.

A psychologist friend reframed it for me. Forget balance. It’s a blend.

Had an amazing time at the @eixsys_healthcare 2026 Award Gala with @sharethewill and @med_dna_health. Was wonderful to see the support from so many community leaders including @caroline_for_texas, Williamson County Judge Steve Snell, Mayors from Cedar Park, Hutto, Round Rock Councilman Frank Ortega, Councilmen and women from other surrounding communities and Round Rock Police Chief Banks and my friend @ioteze. taken in Marriott North Austin Round Rock by @bryangroks

Kristin Stevens heard it during her first campaign for Round Rock City Council, when the mood around Texas was to put the walls up. She made a different call. She says welcome, and then she asks one more thing: How can I get you involved?

Read that second sentence again. It is not a greeting. It is a job offer.

The person who just moved to your town is not wondering whether you have room. They are wondering whether they matter here. A wall answers the first question. Kristin answers the second.

In January I will speak at TEDx Round Rock Play, and my talk asks whether you are building a pedestal or a playground. A pedestal has room for one person while everyone else looks up. A playground only works when other people are playing, and you cannot take credit for most of what happens on it.

So here is the question I am carrying into January. Who did you last say welcome to, and what did you hand them so they can play in your playground?
