While I was working on my book, @christiandklong followed me around for a few days with his camera while I took photos and talked inspiration for the project. I am so grateful that he was able to film this and make me look cool cuz I hate being on the other side of the camera. Anyways, go watch the video on my YouTube! Good evening you beautiful people!

My book, Through Moving Glass is finally available for purchase. This book is compiled of over 100 film photographs and has been a long time in the making.

I’ve spent countless hours photographing, scanning and editing this project over the past 4 years, so to finally let this one off my chest feels amazing.

You can visit my website to see all the details about this project. For those who would like to grab a copy early, the special pre-order price is $80. After next Monday, the price will be $100.

Thank you for all the support - I can’t wait until everyone has their own copy of this fat ol’ book to thumb through. Link is in my bio.

P.S. Next week, a short documentary filmed by my super talented friend @christiandklong about my process during this project will be released on my YouTube. taken in Los Angeles, California by @brycechapnick

when @gesischilling asked me to contribute to the new @omiamifestival book, the assignment was a few photos. naturally I took that as "turn IN 100,000 perfect photographs or else!" and turned in probably 300 photos. but, what else is new.

the book, literally everyone’s invited, is an ode to south florida. each photographer was assigned a zip code and asked to photograph within it. feels pretty special to be included alongside so many great photographers while blending poetry and photography in one place.

two of my photos made the book. the rest might end up here soon or sit on a hard drive forever until my kids inherit a few cardboard boxes of my work and figure it out themselves.

go grab the book. thanks again @gesischilling @sarahtrudgeon @omiamifestival

looking through my camera roll from the past year to get on here and share some favorite moments made me realize some things.

as another year comes to an end, summarizing it all in a handful of images doesn’t exactly feel satisfying. no gallery can properly capture the personal growth, the setbacks, the smiles, the cries or the laughs. it doesn’t show relationships made and friendships lost or show the sleepless night and early mornings.

I feel that all the hard work, feelings and experiences gathered over the course of a year should be reflected upon personally and not socially (this is coming from myself, who is awful at sharing much of my life online, so take with a fat ass grain of salt).

the best is to just continue chiseling away at this thing called life while letting your creativity course through your veins and bleed out when it’s ready. one day, when the time is right, all the hard work we put in will show itself and all the pain will make our skin a little tougher.

so to recap a year, I’m going to share these memories from my wedding day. where I was able to marry my best-friend and spend a day smiling with my wife, my kids, my friends and family all gathered in one place.

so to every single person out there
even all the fucking haters. I love you and hope 2025 is a good one. by @brycechapnick

Personally: Part 2

“Through Moving Glass” by Bryce Chapnick

What led you to pursue this topic and why do you consider it
something you’re passionate about?

A lot of my recent projects seem to start with the intention of
exploration. Whether I need to explore within myself or need to
explore my surroundings, the process seems to become
meditative. As a new father navigating the new waters of
fatherhood and unemployment, my camera became both an
outlet and a coping mechanism during long isolated days of
lockdown.

When describing this project to others, it’s natural to cringe at
time-stamping this body of work with a global pandemic, but it is what it is. These photographs were made during peak COVID
lockdown in Los Angeles.

With that being said, I found solace in capturing the essence of a city that seemed both familiar and distant at the same time. From the quiet alleyways in the suburbs, to the palm trees towering over East LA boulevards, this collection of photographs can be viewed as a poetic love story dedicated to a place I fell in love with. As I drove without aim, I explored almost every inch of LA.

As you flip through these pages, imagine yourself placed in the
passenger seat, watching out the window as the city zooms by.
Allow the images to string together fragments of time into
fantastical stories. As a child, I constantly looked out the window of my parent’s car, turning blurry and fast-moving images into beautiful landscapes.

To this day, I cherish my driving time (preferably alone). Driving
leads me to so much discovery all while allowing me to channel
an interesting form of meditation. To explore via driving helps me drown out responsibility life has acquired, so my inner child can create freely. Each image represents stolen moments and hours when I managed to escape into the city. Life’s greatest
adventures are found not in faraway lands, but within the walls of our homes.

How is this project personal to you?

I was able to use this project to explore during a time of loneliness in a place that was once such a social hub for work. I was able to find new pockets of the city I never paid attention to and it helped keep me sane. by @brycechapnick
