Saturday, November 14, we’re hosting @brandonreilly (@nightmareofyouband / @themovielife.longisland516 ) for an intimate solo acoustic show at our home in Detroit.

He’ll be performing the self-titled Nightmare of You record in full, plus some additional material.

Capped at just 30 people, and tickets are almost gone. Link in bio!

Brandon’s had a hand in so much of the Long Island music I grew up loving. I first met him back in 2018 while touring with @baggageband at a show in Connecticut. Angela and I got to head out to NYC earlier this year to shoot the Nightmare of You reunion, and now we’re getting to host him back in Detroit, so that’s pretty special.

Love what @playhouse.band is doing, connecting artists directly with people willing to open up their homes for shows like this. by @brycemata

Holy shit. Thank you all so much.

We sold out of the Freak Baby bundles in just a couple hours last Sunday. Absolutely did not expect that. Been totally overwhelmed by the amount of love and support we’ve received. Pretty incredible reminder of how lucky I am to have so many amazing friends and family in my life. Seriously can’t thank you all enough.

Thank you to Nick Diener for auctioning off a Swellers-era guitar cab, and to everyone who placed a bid. blown away by that whole thing.

We’ve been packing up orders, will be shipping everything out throughout the week under the watchful eye of Booey, our forever unenthused Director of Fulfillment Operations.

We also have a handful of leftover tote bags (screenprinted by the wonderful @edgemenprinting) and enamel pins available on the newly revamped store.

Monday was chemo session 6 of 21. Tuesday I had a medport installed in my chest (so I don’t have to keep getting IVs through my arm, which is nice). Tomorrow is session 7 of 21.

Almost done with the first of 3 cycles.

Love you guys very much ❤️ by @brycemata

This week I started chemotherapy, and Friday I finished day 5 of 21.

Shortly after our first Freak Baby Zine issue release at Factory Two on April 25th, I noticed one of my balls was way bigger than normal and a week or so later, I was diagnosed with non-seminoma testicular cancer. Aaand pretty quickly after that I had the big boy removed (RIP).

Thought that was the end of it but, unfortunately, some recent scans showed that the cancer had spread, so I’m now undergoing chemotherapy, with another surgery planned afterward.

Good news is that this type of cancer has a very high treatment success rate, so I’m feeling really optimistic. The bad news is that chemo fucking sucks, and apparently having one ball doesn’t get you a 50% discount on bills.

We’re a single-income family of four, and I’ll be taking some time away from work while I get through treatment. Definitely don’t feel comfortable with the idea of starting a GoFundMe, but we do have a bunch of merch left over from our first Freak Baby event, so we’ve put a bundle up on our store.

It includes a tote, enamel pin, the first physical issue of the zine, and stickers. The first 12 orders will also get a cardstock screen print of @brentmosser ’s cover artwork.

If you want to support us, you can grab one through the link in my bio. There’s also an option to kick in a little extra at checkout if you’d like (but absolutely no pressure.)

Most importantly, I wanna thank everyone who’s checked in, reached out, offered help, or just sent some love our way. It really does mean a lot to us and our family.

Love to all ❤️🫶

P.S. Might not have hair next time you see me 😎 by @brycemata

Extremely lucky to be able to both raise a family and also be able to do creative things together with @angelaleelopez

So proud of everything we’ve gotten to do in the short amount of time we’ve started @freakbabyzine
