Scratchy lines. It's the biggest mistake I, and a lot of beginner artists make when starting out. But how did I go from that, to clean lines with pen?

From my personal journey, I found 2 exercises that let me improve the fastest. I originally intended to include both exercises in the video... but I took too long explaining the problem and the first exercise, which I think is good so you guys can fully digest the info I shared here.

And don't just watch the video - make sure to actually practice those lines! Y'know what, post pictures of your studies below in the comments so you can be held accountable.. I'll respond to every single one and answer any questions you have!

Practice for a week, and next week, we'll move onto the second exercise - it's a bit more advanced, but with enough dedication and practice, you can do it! I believe in you guys :D by @brynnlidesign

Ok so this was definitely one of the coolest cafes I've been to :D

At @luanas_coffee_and_beer , there's a nice sitting area with pretty plants, ample sunlight, and cute decor, just like your typical cafe. But directly across, there's a darker area with a pool table, darts, and a bar. Oh and also their menu is themed like a comic book. And they have great food & pastries alongside their drinks. Like what?? That's so cool!

I had a lot of fun capturing the different vibes, and I wanted to throw in some comic book vibes in there with the panels and action text. And the employee was so fire, she was so funny LOLLL

Check them out if you love unique cafes. Or if you just want to hang out with friends, it's an awesome spot!

If you're interested in my sketching process, I have the full process on my Patreon (link in bio), feel free to check it out! 💛 by @brynnlidesign

Amidst the many shades of green, birds perched on trees, and lively Chengdu elders taking their morning strolls, I saw some amazing Chinese calligraphy - done by the sweetest old man using nothing but a water bucket and a stick.

What stood out to me beside his amazing skills was the joy he seemed to feel while writing each character. He seemed at peace, just doing what he loves in a place he loves. And despite the water slowly evaporating and disappearing, he just kept on writing more.

Watching him, I remembered how much I love art, and I wanted to share my happiness as he did for me. 💛

His reaction to my sketch was SO sweet, and it still makes me happy knowing how much he treasured it! It was also awesome chatting with other people in the park - it was such a fun moment, and I hope the happiness spread to you, too! :)

Hope you enjoyed this Saturday Sketch! I know the format is a bit different, but I really wanted to share this moment with you guys :D

bit of a different video, but I wanted to share a quick backstory of how I started designing stuff!

I'm a huge advocate for just.. trying things and seeing if it works. I never know what'll happen in life, and even if I try something that doesn't work out for me, now I know for sure it doesn't work! life is too short to have too many unanswered questions yknow :D

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be posting on social media, inspiring people to draw, or designing stuff for clients. but here I am. and I'm nowhere near the end of my journey either. I'm still a student, which gives me a lot of leeway to try out random things and see what sticks. I'm very grateful for this opportunity.

I'm hoping this video will help someone out there who's not sure how to get started or not sure what they want to do. I'm still looking for a direction, too, but trying out something you're interested in, if given the opportunity, will definitely be a step in the right direction :) by @brynnlidesign

I've been thinking about ways to help bridge the gap for beginners looking to get into art. So I was thinking - if I were to start over and learn art from scratch, I'd start with these 4 exercises!

I'm experimenting and trying out long form content on YouTube, but it's uh.. a little long. So if you don't want to sit through a 20 minute video, I made a short version of the exercises I talk about there! 🫡

And of course, if there's anything you guys are curious about, want to learn, or want to see, just let me know in the comments - I read and respond to every single one :)

Thanks for watching, and GO DRAWWW 💛 by @brynnlidesign

One of my favorite places I sketched during my trip to Singapore!!

I remember I was just doomscrolling Google Maps while in Singapore, looking for cute cafes and places to sketch within the 3-4 days I was there. Then, I randomly stumbled upon @elijahpies - a super cozy looking pie shop selling desserts that looked way too good to eat 😭

When I got there, the outside alone was enough to get me excited. It looked so picturesque, like something you'd see in a really cute animated film! The inside was just as good, with cute textures and little details. And to top things off, the smell... the warm scent of pie crust, sweet notes of meringue, and a lingering wave of coffee beans. Man, I was in heaven....

I got a slice of their Pistachio Praline Pie and I still think about it to this day. Yes, it tasted as good as it looked. The workers were so sweet as well which just topped off the whole experience. If I ever visit Singapore again, I definitely want to come back to this place. And I heard they're opening their third location!! Huge congrats to them 💛

Anyway, I really enjoyed this sketch and it was a great way to end off my Singapore trip hehe

Keep on drawing :D

One of the cutest cafes in Gainesville... so you already know I had to sketch it!

I've been here plenty of times before but never got the opportunity to draw @coteriemarketgnv - a super cute cafe that supports small artists, has a bunch of fun events, and sells unique drinks & baked goods! I personally have been hunting for hojicha in Gainesville for the longest time, so I was really happy to see Coterie offers it!

As for the sketch, I really enjoyed capturing all the little details and textures around the cafe :D it was a bit difficult since my original seat was taken, so I had to kind of imagine the old perspective. it was a fun challenge, though!

and thank you to the staff & owners of Coterie, you all are the sweetest! definitely check them out if you haven't already 💛 by @brynnlidesign

Kinda random, but my friends and I decided to pull up to a cafe and start practicing boxes! Was super fun seeing how they learn and watching them improve 💛

Everyone learns in a different way, so I was trying to find specific strategies based on their learning style. And boxes might not necessarily be for everyone, too! It all depends on how you grasp the world around you.

And I got to unbox and try out @tomsstudio's Lumos Duo, a refillable fine liner that is SOOO cool and really nice to use!! Also super excited that I got into their ambassador program, so you can get a fire 10% discount if you use code "BRYNNLIDESIGN" on any of their products :D

But yeah, wanted to share this little session with you guys - hoping it's helpful in some way! And this was a super fun experience too :) Thanks to my friends for locking in with me 🫡 by @brynnlidesign

Super excited to show you guys a cool project I've been working on :D

It all started when @purposecoffeeaz messaged me, looking for some help to refine their logo. They're a home-based cafe looking to build a tight-knit community and share resources to those who need them!

I absolutely loved the initial concept, especially the dandelions - known for being resilient and growing in the most difficult conditions. And upon learning more about the project and my client's background, I knew my naive illustration style would fit the human-centered feelings the brand needed to show!

Overall, building a brand identity from the ground up was super fun and meaningful, and I learned a lot, too! My client was so kind and easy to work with, and I wish them and Purpose Coffee the best 💛 by @brynnlidesign

I've gotten a lot of DMs and comments asking how I approach my cafe sketches! So today, I'm hoping to break down my process into 3 steps so you guys can have a bit more insight!

If you want more detail of my full sketching process & my specific thoughts for each sketch (the process kinda differs per location), you can find all of that on my Patreon (link in my bio) for a dollar a month! It'll also help fund my cafe expenditures LOLL

And feel free to continue tagging me in any art you make if you're inspired by what I do or any of my content!! Always love seeing your sketches or studies 💛

ALSO I HEARD YOU GUYS, INSTEAD OF 2 PARTS I MADE IT ONE LONG VIDEO THIS TIME, hopefully yall like it better 🫡

The last sketch I did in Gainesville before traveling for the summer... and it was at a legendary local bakery I FINALLY got the opportunity to check out.

I still cherish the day my friends and I randomly decided to wake up at the crack of dawn, suffer from 4 hours of sleep, and get our hands on some croissants from @uppercrust_bakery_ before they sold out. Then, while enjoying the nice weather, we sat outside drawing, studied for finals, and enjoyed the DELICIOUS croissants - like dude they were actually heavenly, so good.

As for the sketch handoff, I'm still so upset I chose the WORST possible camera angle 😭 but at this point, I was still really scared of holding my phone and blatantly filming them. It's ok I learned my lesson

I also started building more compositional ideas that you see in my sketches today - key food or drinks in the foreground, and a framed sketch of the interior or environment. Man, this sketch was pretty monumental now that I think about it.

But yeah, pretty 10/10 experience to say the least. Go check them out for yourself if you're in Gainesville! 💛

Keep on drawing :D
