A bit of common humanity today! An older gent took quite a tumble near our front doors and cut his head and bashed his cheek. As it happened a nurse was walking past on her way to work at a nearby surgery and was helping him with serviettes from a nearby coffee shop in just moments. We were on the scene within a minute or two and I had arrived with our first aid rucksack and the warm items we keep for such occasions. The chap asked me if I’d hold his hand and talk to him. I did and it was very effective. He perked up and we talked about random stuff, and about the dressing gown we laid over him. At his request I called his wife and very, very calmly let her know what was going on . He thanked me profusely for not spooking her (that was when it felt emotional) . An ambulance arrived within 11 minutes and one that was going by stopped even sooner than that. Off to the BRI in good shape but shaken. Good connections today in quite emotional moments. Be kind, be calm, do the right thing, respect your elders. Don’t worry about blood on your cuffs, even when it’s your favourite shirt gifted by your wife ! #kindness #humanity #bristol #dotherightthing by @bsfive
