Few thoughts about current events on the Reykjanes peninsula.

Currently there is no eruption and there is no way of predicting what will happen in coming days, weeks.

I strongly advise people who are traveling to Iceland to not go into the town of Grindavik.

I don’t do tours of any kind nor advice about how to “get close active volcano” nor do i accept any kind of payment to do that. I am a member of the press and work in that capacity. Events like those since 10th of November are not a tourist experience.

Any time now!

As myself and the family keep up the tradition to cook my wife’s awesome bbq ribs and my friend Villi has ordered 100 chicken wings, to feast on during the Super Bowl, the volcano system on the Reykjanes peninsula seems to be ready to go off.

What do you think, should I skip the game if it erupts tonight?

Is an eruption imminent?

Scientists at the Icelandic MET office believe that the area north of Grindavik is reaching the same land rise as seen just before the prior two eruptions and when the magma dike broke it’s way to, and under the town of Grindavik on November 10th, 2023.

As always, these are predictions, speculations, based on data collected each and every day, in the area.

This footage was filmed last summer, during the Litli Hrutur eruption.

Hey, it’s been a while 😊

It’s my birthday so I felt that posting in my feed for the first time in almost 4 months was a nice present to you all.

I’ve been busy focusing on my new venture in the AI and software world and also, focusing on myself and my family. Trying to improve my self so I can be more present for those I love.

This post includes some of my favourite shots from the first part of my Asia travels with @swanhelleniccruises in April and May. I hope you like it and maybe tell me in a comment which is our favourite!

The waiting game!

I was certain that during my 37 days in Asia, an eruption would happen but no, I made it back and still no fire reaching for the sky and mesmerising lava flowing.

Hope life is good for all of you. Which photo do you like the most?

Throwback to 2022!

In August 2022 the second eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula began.

Often referred to as the Meradalir eruption it lasted for around two weeks.

The hike was across Fagradalsfjall, past the craters that formed during the 2021 eruption and it’s often called the first tourist eruption as people flocked to Iceland to witness the beauty of an active volcano.

Snow Lava!

If you ask me what is my favourite volcano shot then this one is number two of all the terabytes I have captured.

Fagradalsfjall eruption, Easter Sunday 2021 when a new vent opened up.

Hi, my name is Björn and I am an volcanoholic!

It’s been more than half a year from my last eruption and I am getting restless.

I browse the Met Office website 200 times a day, hoping I am getting my needed doze of 1300 degree hot lava as soon as possible.

I try to talk about it with friends, they don’t understand, nor dose my wife. She wants me to find a real job. The struggle is real!

The Disney Volcano Park!

I have often said that the privilege of filming volcanos is to see how many people are thrilled to be able to experience up close.

It’s a bit like being in a theme park with active volcanos. Maybe an idea for Disney?

Best show on earth!

I wish you all a happy new year and I truly hope that 2026 will be a year that will bring us all happiness, new adventures and prosperity.

Here is a little fun fact; Icelanders spend between $10 to $15 million on fireworks during the days leading up to New Year’s Eve. Large chunk of that is fund raising for the local SAR squads all over the country, so they can be there, in time of need, by the hard working volunteers of the search and rescue squads. Those women and men deserve all the praise we can give them.
