Last night we hosted our first all-student meeting!
We can’t wait to see how our students grow throughout the semester, and we’re already so proud of everything they’ve accomplished so far.

At our first meeting, students shared:
- How they’re investing in themselves
- Things they’re celebrating
- Obstacles they’re navigating
- Tips, encouragement, and support for one another

One of the most rewarding parts was watching students celebrate each other’s wins and support each other through the challenges. They’re already building connections, finding common ground, and bonding as a cohort — and we’re excited to watch those relationships grow.

And then came HTML coding!
Our non-tech-savvy students tackled a coding lesson and walked away feeling genuinely proud of themselves. Some were so excited that they were calling home to tell their families about what they had accomplished!

They should be proud — stepping outside your comfort zone and realizing “Hey, I can do this!” is a big deal.

And, of course… handshakes from Dr. Orozco are officially a hot commodity! 🤝😄

One theme that really resonated across the group was the challenge of time management and maintaining a healthy school/work/life balance. Students shared their strategies, offered each other tips, and reminded one another that no one is alone in facing these challenges.

Our students are not just learning together — they’re supporting one another along the way.

Here’s to a semester full of growth, discovery, connection, and plenty of moments to celebrate! by @bsucics

On behalf of Dr. Luis Orozco, the CICS is proud to have Ethan Buckner as one of our graduate assistants.

Ethan graduated with a degree in Computer Science, with dual majors in Secure Software Design and Video Game Design, and brings his technical background to the 2027 cohort. An interesting note is that Ethan decided to pursue the master’s in ICS after interacting with Dr. Orozco during the 2026 student symposium. by @bsucics

We would like to highlight another student of ours, Campbell Reed, who was selected to participate in the Fall 2026 MISO Xtern Challenge, hosted by TechPoint.

This is a competitive, two-week academic-industry challenge in which selected students work in cross-university teams to design and build solutions addressing a real-world business problem designed by MISO. The program culminates in two in-person days at MISO’s headquarters in Carmel, Indiana.

Please give Campbell all the warm wishes as he takes on this challenge! by @bsucics

Think back to your first professional reception, conference, client event, or business dinner. For many of us, those early experiences came with a certain amount of uncertainty: Who do I talk to? How do I introduce myself? How do I enter or leave a conversation? What does it mean to carry myself as a professional in a setting where there is no agenda, no classroom, and no obvious script?

As CICS alumni, you also know that learning how to navigate those moments has always been part of the value of the Student Social Learning Program. We are continuing that tradition with this year's Taste of CICS, and I would like to invite you to come back—not simply as a guest, but as part of the learning experience.

Our current ICS students are beginning the same transformation that you once experienced: moving from graduate students into confident, capable industry professionals. At the Taste of CICS, heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine will create the setting for students to practice professional conversation, introductions, active listening, social etiquette, relationship building, and the judgment required in professional social environments.

This is where we need you. We need alumni to provide the authentic professional audience that makes this experience real. Talk with the students. Ask them questions. Bring them into conversations. Give them the opportunity to practice—and, through your example, help them begin to understand what it means to become part of the professional community they are preparing to enter.

You once stood where they are standing now. This is an opportunity to help begin their transformation. The strength of CICS has always extended beyond the classroom. It is built through a community that helps each new generation grow into the professionals they are capable of becoming.

I hope you will come back and help us do that for this cohort. by @bsucics
