Our interview with @kait_rhoads and @thor_bueno is up on our YouTube channel!

Kait and Thor are amazingly talented, technically skilled, and highly trained glassblowers who have set themselves apart in a crazy industry!

In their early days, they were also part of @bteamglass in the 90s. This group of artists traveled all around California and beyond demonstrating, teaching, entertaining, and inspiring students, teachers, and glass enthusiasts.

It was so incredible to get to sit down with Kait and Thor and talk to them about their roots, their inspirations, and the magic behind the B Team! taken in Corning Museum of Glass by @bteamglass

It was such an honor to get to sit down with @kait_rhoads and @thor_bueno after their reunion performance with @bteamglass at @corningmuseum for the 2026 GAS conference.

Kait and Thor are both incredibly talented glassblowers that have set themselves apart in the industry with their mind blowing skills.

They are also two parts of The B Team, which is an incredible group of NINE artists that formed back in the 90s to educate, inspire, and mystify glass students and enthusiasts around California and beyond!

The full interview is up on our YouTube channel, link in bio!

In 1995, the B Team opened its first formal exhibition, Five Senses, proposing new ways for people to experience different applications of glass.

For Sound, the group made a Who-Hoober (the name inspired by the 1966 Dr. Seuss animated television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!). The tube phonograph with a Walkman playing music at the bottom reverberated noises through the space, changing the environment.

Five Senses was the group’s first showcase in New York City, at the Robert Lehman Gallery at UrbanGlass. by @bteamglass

The Slingshot Act was born out of late-night B Team discussions on how to create absurd new tricks. As Evan Snyderman recalls, “We made several experimental versions of the slingshot, the first being a pedal-powered catapult, sadly undocumented, that shot globs of glass straight up into the air above our heads, before landing on the final version that tested well. The Slingshot Act was the perfect balance of classical high-level glassblowing skills and chaos that we were hoping for.”

The making of a four-to-five-stacked incalmo bowl spun out into a target would be a highlight in any glassblowing demonstration, but setting up a giant slingshot and shooting globs of molten glass onto it brought it into the realm of performance. The act became the finale of the Spontaneous Combustion performance at UrbanGlass in 1996 (images 3-5). It was such a crowd-pleaser that the team took it to Japan on their 1999 tour and, after three decades, performed it again at the 2026 GAS Conference (images 1-2). by @bteamglass

“The B Team: Five wacky young glassblowing performance artists show their stuff. Wearing space-alien costumes, they plan to make a baby and a rocket out of hot glass, collect fears from the audience on bits of paper and incinerate them, and whatever else the spirit moves them to do.” – The Village Voice, February 14, 1995, announcing a B Team performance at UrbanGlass.

For over 30 years, the B Team has been blurring the boundaries between craft and performance, peppered with a hefty dose of joy and the absurd. by @bteamglass

I stepped back on stage last week for the first time in 30 years.

Thirty years after the B Team first came together, we stood on a stage again at the @glassartsociety conference and created something that resonated far beyond the performance itself.

What meant the most was hearing from people afterward. Artists told us they felt inspired. They remembered why they create. They left energized, hopeful, and ready to take new risks.

That was always the goal.

To raise the energy in the room.

To help people let go of fear and doubt for a moment and remember what is possible.

The B Team has always been about pushing boundaries, taking chances, trusting one another, and discovering what can happen when a group commits fully to a shared vision. After all these years, that spirit is still alive.

What happened at GAS was more than a performance. It was a reminder that community matters, creativity brings people together, and culture still has the power to inspire people to dream bigger.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

Thank you for believing in this. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for trusting one another. Thank you for continuing to push boundaries and create something bigger than any one of us could create alone.

Over the past several months, we developed this performance for @corningmuseum to kick off the annual conference. Some members met for the first time in Corning because they were part of different generations of the B Team. But the mission remained the same: push the limits of glass, have fun, create an unforgettable experience, and leave people feeling better than when they arrived.

I want to celebrate everyone who helped bring this spectacle to life.

Everyone at the GAS staff and board, especially @brandi_p_clark, Hugh McHarg, thank you for trusting us to kick off such a wonderful conference.

@jasonchrisglass and @glassblowerjack, we are honored to have you share your talent with us.

@mongrain and @zimmglass, you were missed!

The B Team is all about collaboration and community, and we truly appreciate you all.
When we come together and raise our voices as one community, we have the power to move culture forward and inspire positive change. by @bteamglass
