Urgent call to the international community to take immediate action to stop Israel's violence and prevent pogroms by settler militias and the Israeli army across the West Bank.

In recent days, violence by settler militias, enabled and supported by the Israeli army, has escalated across the West Bank, including the torching and destruction of Palestinian property, and the forced expulsion of families and communities. These attacks have been met with silence and inaction from much of the international community, allowing the violence to continue and intensify.

Today's event in the village of Tell (Area B) when a settlers' "tour" in the village ended with the killing of at least 4 Palestinians and 1 settler and several people injured is leading to escalated violence in the area with settlers, ministers, and Knesset members calling for further revenge attacks which already started across the West Bank. Experience shows that these events can escalate quickly into mass pogroms when met with silence.

We call the international community to act now. Immediate pressure must be placed on Israel to stop further attacks, prevent pogroms and further killings, and ensure the protection of Palestinians, in accordance with Israel's obligations under international law.

Tonight (Monday) July 20, 2026 - Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinians and secured the theft of dozens of sheep during a joint raid by Israeli settlers, soldiers and police in Deir Jarir

During a joint raid by settlers, soldiers and police on the village of Deir Jarir in the Ramallah District on the night between Sunday and Monday, soldiers shot and killed Ahmad Abu Mukhu, 26, and Odeh Farakhneh, 53, and wounded three other Palestinians. One of the wounded remains hospitalized in serious condition. The forces accompanied the settlers during the raid on the village and secured their theft of dozens of sheep.

The footage, captured by a camera mounted on an ambulance, shows the moment Abu Mukhu was shot. He was hit in a major artery in his leg and later died of his wounds.

The killing in Deir Jarir is one example of how Israel advances ethnic cleansing in the West Bank: settlers invade and steal, while the military and police accompany them and shoot Palestinians who try to protect their homes and property. The international community continues to grant Israel impunity, thereby allowing this mechanism to continue.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed 1,092 Palestinians in the West Bank, including at least 242 children and teenagers. The Israeli regime leaves Palestinians in the West Bank exposed to systematic, daily Israeli violence, while Israelis who harm them enjoy near-total impunity. by @btselem

The food crisis in the Gaza Strip is worsening, with the World Central Kitchen shutting down some of its community kitchens. Throughout the ongoing genocide, these kitchens, along with local initiatives, became the only reliable source of food for hundreds of thousands of people. Now only three WCK kitchens remain, together serving about 200,000 hot meals a day – down from more than 1.5 million until recently.

Since October 2023, Israel has restricted the entry of food into Gaza while systematically destroying the local infrastructure needed to produce and distribute it. The result has been severe shortages, forcing hundreds of thousands of people into near-total dependence on humanitarian aid. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, by October 2025, 455 people, including 151 children, had died from starvation and malnutrition.

For many families, these community kitchens were the only way to secure a single meal a day. Now, even that fragile lifeline is disappearing.

In March 2025, Israel imposed a total siege on Gaza for more than two months, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid. It later imposed additional restrictions on the work of humanitarian organizations, prompting dozens of aid agencies to warn that they would be unable to continue operating. As a result, in May 2026, the World Central Kitchen began scaling back its operations.

The ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza is the result of deliberate Israeli policy. Humanitarian aid, dependent on Israel's changing decisions and interests, cannot replace a functioning system for producing and distributing food. As long as Israel continues to restrict the entry of food, destroy essential infrastructure, and obstruct humanitarian organizations, millions of people will remain trapped in a reality of hunger, deprivation, and dependence.

B'Tselem's new 360° VR documentary, Raj’in (‘We Shall Return’), which follows Palestinian shepherding communities facing forced displacement in the occupied West Bank by Israel, has been selected for Venice Immersive at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

Raj’in (‘We Shall Return’) brings audiences face to face with an ongoing catastrophe: Israel is driving Palestinian communities from their land and homes as part of its project to eliminate Palestinian life in the West Bank. The world must recognize this as ethnic cleansing - and act to stop it.

Since October 2023, settler violence and military raids have forcibly displaced at least 4,635 Palestinians in the West Bank. So far, 62 Palestinian communities have been entirely forcibly displaced, with another 15 communities partially displaced.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a pediatrician and the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, has been imprisoned by Israel without charges or a release date for more than 550 days. His lawyer now warns that his life is in imminent danger. Dr. Abu Safiya was arrested in December 2024 after refusing to leave the hospital during the siege, choosing instead to remain with his patients and medical team. Last month, Israel’s High Court rejected his appeal against the extension of his detention without publishing its reasons.

According to Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, Dr. Abu Safiya was brought to last week’s meeting with his lawyer bearing fresh signs of severe violence. He struggled to sit, had difficulty breathing and appeared close to losing consciousness. He is being held in solitary confinement in the underground Rakefet facility and told his lawyer he feared this would be their last meeting before he was killed.

Dr. Abu Safiya is one of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza imprisoned by Israel, alongside Palestinians from the West Bank and Palestinian citizens of Israel. Testimonies collected by B’Tselem, together with reports by Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organizations, show that since October 2023 Israel’s incarceration facilities have become a network of torture camps for Palestinians.

Detainees are subjected to systematic torture, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care, humiliation and sexual violence. According to B’Tselem’s monitoring, at least 90 Palestinians have died in these facilities since October 2023.

The torture and inhuman treatment of Palestinian prisoners are not the actions of a few individuals. They are the implementation of official Israeli policy, enabled by Israel’s judicial system.

The international community continues to shield Israel from accountability. It must demand an end to the torture, killings and human rights violations Israel perpetrates in its incarceration camps and throughout the territories under its control.

"Genocide isn't just about Israelis and Palestinians. It's about the whole world – about humanity, and how we’re erasing humanity."

The victims of the genocide in Gaza are Palestinians, and the perpetrators are Israelis. But genocide is a universal human phenomenon. As such, the responsibility to recognize, understand and oppose it lies with all of us. At the same time, while genocide shares common core aspects, every instance has unique characteristics.

B'Tselem Executive Director Yuli Novak talked with the "Eyes on Gaza" project to explain why the mass killing and destruction in Gaza did not emerge in a vacuum. They are the direct result of nearly 80 years of separation, militarization of Israeli society, and dehumanization of Palestinians, all of which paved the way for the catastrophe unfolding today.

"There was a soldier who pulled the trigger and killed Mohammad. But there is also a system that protects those responsible, conceals reality and almost never holds anyone accountable."

These are the words of Aliyah Abdel Majid al-Halaq, writing in @guardian about the killing of her 9-year-old son, Mohammad, by Israeli soldiers.

" I still cannot understand why that soldier opened fire, or whether there was any reason at all, or whether, in his eyes, being a Palestinian child was reason enough. ״

Aliyah’s family is one of 54 Palestinian families whose children were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2025 alone.

From October 2023 to July 5, 2026, Israel killed 1,088 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 242 children and teenagers.

The ʿAsʿus family was about to sit down for dinner when they heard gunfire from the street. Everyone rushed to take cover. Two-year-old Layla was sitting in her mother’s lap when a bullet struck her in the head. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooters were Israeli soldiers who had were carrying out a raid in a neighboring home in the village of Muthallath a-Shuhada in Jenin District, on 25 January 2025.

Layla is one of 54 children and teens killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2025. Our new report, Unshielded Childhood, released this week, tells their stories and the circumstances that led to each of their deaths.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed 241 children and teenagers in the West Bank, the highest number of Palestinian minors killed there since the territory was occupied in 1967. This is the result of an Israeli policy that enables and backs the killing of Palestinians, without anyone being held to account.

These are the locations where Israeli forces killed 54 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank in 2025. The geographic dispersal of cases throughout the West Bank makes it clear this these killings were not isolated exceptions, but a systemic matter.

As part of Israel’s onslaught on the Palestinians since October 2023, the killing of Palestinians in the West Bank, and especially children and teenagers, has risen to unprecedented levels. Since October 2023, Israel has killed 242 Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank. Fifteen of them were killed in the first half of 2026 alone, including seven-month-old baby Sam Abu al-Haikal.

This figure is higher than during any comparable period since the occupation began in 1967.

The extensive killing could not occur without the backing and support of Israeli policy makers and public officials.

In early 2025, Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened that if necessary, Israel would operate in the West Bank as it had in Gaza. In November 2023, Finance Minister and Minister in the Defense Ministry Bezalel Smotrich said there were "two million Nazis" in the West Bank. He later declared that "Funduq, Nablus, and Jenin should look like Jabalya."

Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, head of the Israeli military's Central Command, recently boasted that the military is killing Palestinians in the West Bank "like we haven't killed since 1967." This past March, after Border Police undercover forces killed four members of the same family – a father, mother, and their two children – in the village of Tammun, MK Yitzhak Kroizer declared from the Knesset podium: "There are no innocent civilians in Jenin. There are no innocent children in Jenin." He added: "I support IDF soldiers in every situation, even if the collateral damage is children or women."

The reality of killing in the West Bank cannot be separated from the killing of more than 21,000 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. Under Israel's apartheid regime, Palestinians remain completely defenseless in the face of lethal violence.

This year, Israel adopted several measures establishing a new capital punishment regime intended to target Palestinians.

These measures effectively create new offences punishable with the death sentence, special courts, and exceptional procedures.

These measures are discriminatory and violate human rights and international law.

FIDH organisations members Adalah, B’Tselem and PCATI work tirelessly against this new deadly legal regime.

Today marks the opening of the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty in Paris. FIDH will be present, along with many of its member organizations, including Palestinian and Israeli NGOs.

The extensive killing of Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank is not a series of isolated incidents. It is a practice backed by every arm of the Israeli regime.

From 7 October 2023 to 29 June 2026, Israel killed 1,087 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 242 children and teenagers.
