It's time for another #TerrierTuesday! Today, we're spotlighting the work of second-year Production Management student: Hannah Whittington. Congratulations, Hannah! We are so lucky to have you as a Terrier! ❤️🐾

Favorite project you’ve worked on at SOT?
➡️ So hard to choose! I'm very passionate about grassroots theatermaking so I have a special love for all of the laboratory productions here at BU, which I am very lucky to help foster and create through my graduate assistantship as the Laboratory Productions Coordinator. I had so much fun working on I and You last spring with my cohort, a laboratory production that came out of our Scenography class. It was an all-hands-on-deck process where we all had the opportunity to build our vision for the work from the ground up without being constrained by our different disciplines of study. I learned and grew so much as an artist by being a part of a process like that! I also thoroughly enjoyed working with the wonderful Nichole Man last year as her APM on Flowers for Mrs. Harris and Medea.

Favorite SOT class you've taken?
➡️ The true and honest answer is all of them! I love being able to grow my craft in my selected field of study while also taking classes in fields I know almost nothing about. All my Production Management courses challenge me in the best way to become the best team member and manager I can be. Scenography helped me hone my own artistic voice and see myself as not just a manager, but a fellow artist and collaborator in the creative process. And I've also taken classes like digital drafting (Vectorworks) and Scene Painting, where I walked in starting from ground zero but learned new skills that made me a better, more well-rounded theatermaker (and had fun doing it!).

Recent or upcoming SOT projects?
➡️ This year, I am so excited to be co-PM'ing the 2026 Fringe Festival alongside PM extraordinaire and my absolute best friend Crystal Smith, and with our newest PM bestie Kelly DeLisle! I am also the Production Manager for Peerless in Studio One this fall, and The Old Man and the Old Moon in the Booth Theatre next spring.

#TerrierTuesday is BACK after a brief hiatus! Today, we're spotlighting Senior Acting Major, Hope Spann! Congratulations, Hope! We are so excited to see what's in store for you! ❤️🐾

Favorite project you’ve worked on at SOT?
➡️ My favorite project I’ve been a part of at SOT is The Director’s Project. This was the first time I’d been involved in a process that was almost entirely produced by students. This project taught me a LOT about collaboration, flexibility, and time management skills. I loved being part of a team that was so ambitious and fiercely committed to not just the success of their own play, but the success of the project as a whole. (I also learned how to use a ouija board…)

Favorite SOT class you've taken?
➡️ I am a die-hard fan of Ashleigh Reade’s Voice and Speech dialect class! So much so that I TA’ed this class last year as well :) Ashleigh is incredibly gifted at explaining complex concepts in a way that is both accessible and fun. I learned so much about my voice that I never would have known without this class. I also think this is the closest thing SOT has to a science class, so it really sets my nerd heart aflame.

Recent or upcoming SOT projects?
➡️ Many many things! I’m playing Iris in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window (come see it), TAing for Jim Fagan’s Acting and Performance for non-theatre majors class, writing a new play with my dear creative partner, Thalia Gerloff, and working with my peers to develop project ideas for STAMP. Senior year is certainly off to a busy start, but I’m so grateful to my performance 2027 cohort for always finding something to laugh about in times of chaos.

Welcome back to another SOT Faculty Spotlight! Today, we're spotlighting one of our newest faculty members, De'Lon Grant! Welcome, De'Lon to our SOT Community! ❤️🐾

What is one piece of advice that you’d give to SOT students?
➡️ “Cringe” is a big part of the job. Don't let that discomfort eclipse one of our primary acting objectives, truth.

What is one thing people may not know about you?
➡️ Most people in the SOT haven't met me yet, but one thing I secretly long to do is play the piano and write music.

What is your favorite part about working in SOT?
➡️ My time thus far has been brief, but one of the things I love witnessing is how much the students encourage and support one another.

Do you have any upcoming projects you'd like to promote?
➡️ I'm directing Into The Woods at Umbrella Stage Company in the new year.

What do you like to do outside of work?
➡️ I co-host a podcast called Lemme Fix It! by @bu_schooloftheatre

Welcome to the first #TerrierTuesday of the school year! Today, we're celebrating the work of Junior Theatre Arts: DP&M Major: Rebecca Weltmann. Congratulations, Rebecca! We're so glad you're part of our program! ❤️🐾

Favorite project you’ve worked on at SOT?
➡️ Sophomore Festival last season! Shout-out to Jim Fagan’s Clown Bar 1 & 2 for reminding me why I love theater!

Favorite SOT class you've taken?
➡️ It’s a tie between Classical Theater Through A Contemporary Lens with Dr. Leahey and my Directed Study with Tasia Jones, where I got to co-direct the play Every Brilliant Thing.

Recent or upcoming SOT projects?
➡️ Production Stage Managing the Fringe Play: The Sign In Sidney Brustein's Window.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned at SOT?
➡️ I learned that I needed to explore my creative side and that creativity doesn’t look the same for everyone! Be You @ BU! Take risks, expand your horizons, laugh, and most importantly, advocate for yourself!

Anything you want to promote?
➡️ The Sign In Sidney Brustein's Window (Nov 5-7)!!!

Quote from Rebecca's nominator:
“She has been so dedicated to the Sophomore Acting Festival, making each show run smoothly. We were able to celebrate all the hard work we put in during rehearsals as actors because she was putting in so much hard work behind the scenes!" by @bu_schooloftheatre

Welcome back to the SOT Faculty Spotlight! ❤️🐾 Today, we're celebrating the fabulous Renee E. Yancey! We are so lucky to have her as part of our community!

What is one piece of advice that you’d give to SOT students?
➡️ “I don’t know” is an incredibly powerful phrase, and a great initial answer, as long as you commit to finding the person/resource with the answer and taking action once you have the information you sought out. And if you never ask the question, the answer is automatically no.

What is one thing people may not know about you?
➡️ I think more folks know this after last season’s production of CALF SCRAMBLE, but I grew up in Texas, and for me that meant going on trail rides with my horse Honey (youngest rider on the South Texas Trail Ride Associations ride from Corpus Christi to San Antonio at age 5), and actively participating in 4-H, including food and fashion shows and showing rabbits, horses, and a heifer (that I won in a calf scramble) at the Jim Wells County Fair.

What is your favorite part about working in SOT?
➡️ The COMMUNITY (especially the SOT Management Community 💜 🦄)! The students, faculty, staff and alumni of SOT have a special connection that starts here at BU (or in my case, starts when you meet theatre artists from BU, and they invite you to come join them in Boston) and continues well after graduation. Once you are a part of the SOT community, you are always part of the SOT community of passionate, collaborative, creative theatre artists.

Do you have any upcoming projects you'd like to promote?
➡️ I am currently the AEA Production Stage Manager of COVENANT at SpeakEasy Stage. It is a Southern Gothic thriller, and I’m excited to finally collaborate with director Dawn M. Simmons alongside a number of BU alums including Jeffrey Petersen (PM), Saskia Martinez (Sets), Kevin Dunn (Lighting), Mackenzie Adamick (Sound) and Sydney Alicia Jackson (Violet). Come see it September 25-October 17 at the Roberts Studio Theatre in the Calderwood Pavillion.

What do you like to do outside of work?
➡️ Bake, travel, and go on walks with my dog Ino. I especially love traveling with Ino to places where we can go hiking and explore nature. by @bu_schooloftheatre
