Spending time here has expanded my perspective on our planet and deepened my understanding of the environment we’re all part of.

I’ve seen the consequences of human activity up close. I’ve learned more about what our oceans and wildlife are up against, and how much of it is caused by us.

And at the same time, I’ve had the privilege of being part of something that tries to protect what’s still here.

Watching turtles come ashore. Protecting their nests. Handling tiny hatchlings. Working through the night. Being tired, dirty, covered in sand - and still feeling incredibly grateful to be here.

I don’t know how much of a difference one person can make. But I know I’d rather spend my time learning, helping and being part of the solution than standing on the sidelines.

Thanks to @bubblesturtleconservation and the whole team for this experience and the chance to be part of this meaningful project.

Check out our socials and support our mission to protect sea turtles and their natural habitat.

The award is home! 🏆🌊🐢

Back where it belongs, by the sea and at the heart of our turtle conservation work. 💙

We proudly shared the news with our guests that the hard work and dedication of the Bubbles Turtle Conservation team have been recognised with the Gamuda Empowerment Award.

Thank you again, @gamudagroup , for this recognition. It means so much to our entire team and reminds us that the work we do, one nest, one hatchling and one guest at a time, truly matters.

Here’s to keeping the work going. For the turtles, for the ocean, for the future. 🌊🐢💚

Note: I love the message from Gamuda: “A World We Borrowed” From the late Dr Jane Goodall “We did not inherit the earth from our ancestor; we borrowed from our children.”

Today, Ronnie and I had the honour of attending the Yayasan Gamuda Awards Ceremony, where Bubbles Turtle Conservation received the Gamuda Empowerment Award (GEA). 🐢💚

This recognition means more to us than I can easily put into words.

When we started Bubbles Turtle Conservation back in 2004, we were not thinking about awards. We simply saw something that needed to be protected, and we chose to do something about it.

More than 20 years later, we are still here.

There have been many long nights, difficult seasons, uncertainties, sacrifices and moments when the work felt endless. Conservation is rarely glamorous. Much of it happens quietly, one nest, one hatchling, one guest, one conversation at a time.

So today felt special.

To have our work recognised through the Gamuda Empowerment Award is a reminder that hard work, persistence and purpose do matter.

But this award does not mark the end of the journey. If anything, it gives us more reason to keep going, to keep educating, protecting and showing that tourism and conservation can work together.

Thank you Yayasan Gamuda for seeing the value in what we do and for recognising the years of work behind Bubbles Turtle Conservation.

And to Ronnie, my partner in this crazy journey from the very beginning, we did it. ❤️

More than 20 years of protecting turtles. Still learning. Still fighting. Still believing.

Paradise with a purpose 🐢🌴

Tucked away on a remote corner of the Perhentian Islands, @bubblesturtleconservation has been working since 2004 to protect sea turtles and the marine environment they depend on.

From monitoring nesting turtles and safeguarding vulnerable nests to releasing hatchlings and educating visitors, every day contributes to the future of these incredible animals.

Since the project began, more than 170,000 hatchlings have been released into the ocean - each one another step towards protecting future sea turtle populations.

Whether you’re looking to join as an intern, volunteer, or simply stay as a guest at @bubblesresort you’ll experience far more than just a tropical island.

Come for paradise. Leave with a whole new appreciation for the ocean. 💙

A busy night at Bubbles as we welcomed a new generation of sea turtles to the ocean. 🐢🌊

Before every release, we brief our guests on how to minimise their impact on these tiny hatchlings. Every small action matters.

Baby turtles should be released as soon as they hatch and become active. Keeping them longer can cause unnecessary exhaustion. The energy stored from the remaining yolk is their precious fuel, allowing them to swim continuously through the dangerous shallow reefs, where many predators are waiting, and reach the safety of the open sea.

You may notice that we only use red lights during the release. Red light has the least impact on hatchlings and does not confuse their natural instinct to crawl towards the brighter horizon over the sea. To help them find their way, the resort switches off all unnecessary lights, leaving only red lights so the hatchlings are not drawn inland.

Watching them disappear into the waves is always a reminder that conservation isn’t just about protecting wildlife. It’s about understanding their needs and making sure our presence does not stand in the way of their journey.

Inspired by the overwhelming support for the Turtle Conservation Experiential Program, we wanted to create another way for people to experience the ocean.

The Sea In Me (与海共生 · 海洋探索之旅) Sept and Oct 2026 is a 6D5N collaboration between Bubbles Dive Resort, @bubblesturtleconservation, and @neart.my.

Not a full on volunteer programme, but an immersive eco-resort experience that brings together some of our guests’ favourite workshops and activities, with plenty of time to slow down and reconnect with the ocean.

🌊 Water safety session
📸 Snorkelling imaging session
🐚 Sea glass jewellery making

🌿 Time to unwind, relax, and simply be

Because understanding the ocean is the first step to protecting it.

If this sounds like your kind of island getaway, we’d love to welcome you.
