Thrilled to announce that the short film “Angler” which I wrote and directed will be programmed at @bitsfilmfest this year! Come check it out along with other great horror shorts on Thursday November 19, 7pm at Isabel Bader Theatre. @alvinsun.dp and I will be there with members of our team, so please say hi if you come through! Team Jalvin was not able to participate this year in @48hfptoronto so I reached out to my pals at @stairwellfilms to see if they could use a bald man on their team. Thanks @nolanwitkowski and @tylergclarke and the whole gang for making me feel so welcome and generally being stellar humans to make art with. Can’t wait for November 9th to see it on the big screen at @revuecinema !!!

(Shout outs to the.a.a.Ron for these amazing photos, I took like one photo all weekend as usual) by @buckstonne

Great times at TIFF this year. I love to see the city come alive and celebrate film! by @buckstonne

Ya boy’s back with another comedic sci-fi short story in this month’s issue of Lightspeed Magazine! It’s called “What Do You Mean The Nano-Bots Formed A Union,” and I posted a sample of the story above. Check out the full story at the author link in my Instagram bio, or simply snag the full August issue. Thanks as always to @johnjosephadams for editing a fantastic publication! by @buckstonne

Hello! I'd love to tell you about my first time directing an unscripted TV show!

TL;DR - Welcome To Sunny Hauntario is streaming NOW on Bell Fibe TV1 (If Bell is your service provider you can watch it free on the Bell Fibe app). If you have a moment to check it out, it would mean the world to us - solid viewership numbers give us a better chance to create a second season!)

Welcome To Sunny Hauntario (@sunny_hauntario) is a paranormal ghost adventure that celebrates some seriously haunted Ontario locations, such as the Victoria County Gaol, Flato Academy Theatre and Kawartha Settlers' Village.

The whole team worked really hard to make this a ghost show like nothing you've ever seen before, with humour, heart, and genuinely spooky ghost encounters!

Featuring guests @geegethiga and @ldechampagne as well as music from @cruickshank_steve and amazing animation from @bossieperson

The fabulous @jimmyhoggthepotatoking was foolish enough to enlist me as a dramaturg for his fantastic one-man show MASHED. Despite this horrible mistake, it is getting fantastic reviews! Check it out all this week at @toronto_fringe (showtimes on the next photo, tickets on the Toronto Fringe website). Maybe I’ll see you at the Thursday 4:15pm show! by @buckstonne

Finals of the @48hfptoronto Horror/Sci Fi yesterday. WOW, there are so many great filmmakers in Toronto!

Among the 15 finalists out of almost 70 original competitors, it was enjoyable (and intimidating) to watch banger after banger on the big screen at historic @revuecinema

Super fun night at the @48hfptoronto Group B screening! So much creative and interesting filmmaking to enjoy, and as always, a huge treat to see our short projected at one of my favourite places in Toronto, @revuecinema

When the dust settled, we were excited to discover that we won our third consecutive audience favourite award. Shout outs to our amazing team, @bossieperson for the killer poster, and @thetallerstevenash and @christopher_cherry for the great photos! by @buckstonne

That’s a wrap on Team Jalvin’s latest short film! In the madness of the weekend we didn’t get a team photo, but here are some fun pics of the process taken by @livcollict

As always, completely floored by the exceptional group of folks who lent their time, energy, and impeccable vibes to @alvinsun.dp and I for the weekend!

Shout outs to our amazing team, thank you for a memorable weekend. Can’t wait to see our @48hourfilmproject horror short up on the big screen on Monday May 25, 6:30pm at historic @revuecinema

Thanks to @metrolab.recording for the amazing set location, it’s a beautiful studio, and right at Bloor and Dundas W… book them, you won’t regret it!

One more shout out to @christopher_cherry and @thetallerstevenash - the weekend is certainly a sprint for the teams, but imagine answering the nonstop flood of questions all weekend from frantic filmmakers at all hours of the night. Truly heroes for making sure we were all supported! by @buckstonne

As Team Jalvin revs up for @48hourfilmproject horror/sci fi edition this weekend, I thought I’d share a little bit about this competition I sometimes participate in called @nycmidnight .

Last year I signed up for the horror prose competition and had a great time writing some horror yarns. I placed first in my heat for the first two rounds, but did not place in the final round. I feel really good about it, having reached the top 3% of 3,600 international participants. Of course the real win is three more short stories that probably wouldn’t have been written otherwise.

Anyhow, I mention it because I have a background as a comedian and animation writer, but also really enjoy writing horror. And I just want to be putting that out into the universe. I am currently shopping around a couple of horror screenplays, a darkly comedic satirical slasher called RVNGR, and an inverted revenge tale called R.I.P. (Robert is Pissed). If you’re interested in learning more, drop me a line.

I also mention it because people sometimes ask where I find the time to write prose. It’s competitions like this, nothing beats a deadline!

I’m not affiliated with the competition but I will say their reader feedback is quite detailed and enthusiastic (the snippets included in this post are like a fifth of the total feedback, it’s really cool how much they engage with the stories).

That’s all. Bye! by @buckstonne
