Happy 12th birthday Bear 🐻 love all your family. We hope you have a lovely day. We didn’t think we would get to celebrate 🎉 this day back in April when you were so poorly. You’ve proved you are strong and have a real zest for life. It’s been a rollarcoaster but we are here. We know you’ve been struggling again recently and you are showing signs of slowing down again but we love you so much and will give you a relaxing birthday. 🎂 #lovemydog #bearthedog #happybirthday #talesofalab by @buddybearadventures

Smile 😊 Senior dog smiles from Bear 🐻
Bear seems a bit better - eating more even foods he decided he didn’t like - Sardines.
Enjoying & asking for walks.
Still has his cough 😷 which we still don’t know why he had it! Vet didn’t seem to know either. It sometimes wakes us up & it’s more like retching. He has had it since he was poorly in April. He is still skinny & needs to fatten up.
Back to drinking and asking for treats and our food especially steak 🥩.
So all good signs. We take the good days and run with them. I’m over my cold 🥶 but feeling totally drained & fatigued. More vitamin D required.
Today was a beautiful sunny day/rainy walk but the Autumn colours were stunning. 🍁
Enjoy Autumn 🍂 walks friends. #seniorlabs #talesofalab #autumnwalks #fallwalks #bearthedog by @buddybearadventures

Some more pics from Bears 🐻 12th birthday 🎂 trip. We decided to take him to @boltonabbeyestate as he’s being coming here since he was a tiny pup. It’s a favourite walk & swim spot. Seems along time ago when he was charging about & diving in the water. He has definitely slowed down but loved just sniffing and watching people walk by in the sunshine ☀️. He had a dip in the water 💦 and just enjoyed being out and about.
He’s not been eating much & since Saturday he really has gone off his food. He is only eating gravy bones & chewy sticks. It’s a worry as we’ve been here before. It’s definitely a 🎢 rollercoaster when you have a senior. It’s been an emotional ride since April when he was so poorly he nearly didn’t make it. He was so strong to pull through but I can see it’s taken its toil and he’s a lot more fragile. That’s why we seized the day & took him. I hope 🤞 he pulls through again. That it’s a blip. #bearat12 #bearthedog #birthdayboy #birthdaytrip #seizetheday by @buddybearadventures

Bears’s 12th birthday 🎂
He had the best day - thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes and love ❤️ for our boy.
He had a lazy sleepy morning, opened some presents, had a few treats. A trip out to the gorgeous @boltonabbeyestate for a birthday dip and walk.
A drink and treat at the Devonshire Arms and then a steak 🥩 for tea. He is shattered now & fast asleep. So grateful for this special day and milestone. We didn’t think he would make it! Happy birthday to the class of 2014 @labsrmylife ❤️

It’s my birthday 🎂 Happy Birthday our beautiful Bear 🐻 you made it to 12 years old and we are so grateful. It’s been a tough 6 months but you pulled through against the odds. Unfortunately he isn’t well again now and losing weight but we celebrate anyway. Love to all our friends on instagram that helped us keep Bear by our side. We send love to Bears brother & sisters and especially beautiful Riley who was taken too soon. It will be a gentle day of sleeping, treats and a slow stroll. #happybirthday #birthdayboy #12today #seniorlabs #talesofalab by @buddybearadventures

Summer 2026…. We don’t want you to end. How about you? We hope you’ve had a good one.
It’s been a mix of fun, highs & a few lows but the main thing is we’ve been together & in this world 🌎that is everything & we feel lucky.
Bear 🐻 has defied the odds and had 3 trips to the seaside. We are so grateful he is still enjoying life thanks to you all & your love and friendship. School tomorrow and I’m not ready to see Rosa going into another school year! It’s flying & she has grown so fast. She has missed her friends so is more than ready. I’m holding on to Summer but the weather & the lighter nights are changing already! I’m holding on for a bit longer definitely not wishing it away. You can keep your Autumn 🍂 decor & pumpkins . #summer2026 #holdingontosummer #summerstill #familytime by @buddybearadventures

Buddy - my soul dog and first kid
It’s Buddy’s anniversary today, 6 years without my soul dog. Although we miss him i feel so thankful he was in our lives for 15.5 years. We had so many adventures together, he was there in the highs and lows of life the bestest friend a girl could have. He was cheeky, funny, affectionate and loving, he would give me hugs and kisses. I can still hear his bark when he wanted something or was excited. He was a gentle big brother to Rosa who was a baby & played endlessly with Puppy Bear and often put him in his place. I still feel his presence especially when we visit places he loved, the seaside, country pubs or parks. We miss you Buddy and still talk often about you. I can say to anyone who is feeling the grief of losing your bestie, it shifts with time, it becomes more manageable and you are able to think back to the wonderful times and life you shared together. We had so many fun and special times. Thank you my best friend. #buddy #bestdog #bestdogever #unconditionalove #mybestfriendforever by @buddybearadventures

Bear is happy 😃
It’s been a while since I posted as Rosa & I have been away.

Bear 🐻 is feeling much better and brighter since I last posted. From where we were a couple of months ago he is a walking miracle. Thanks to all of you, ❤️your love and support, our fantastic vet and we have been working around the clock to keep him hydrated, fed and having the right medication.

Positives ❤️
1/ He is eating independently- this is huge! From not eating, to hand feeding to now eating almost anything we put in his bowl. He has his Labrador appetite back. He is eating a lot more variety of foods too. We are now trying to get him to eat more carbs, fruit and veg and joint healthy foods.
2/ his weight has stabilised. After losing so much weight & muscle we are now trying to think of ways for him to regain it & strength. Swimming ie hydrotherapy is one idea.
3/ his Labrador demeanor & happiness is back. He seems much more like his old self. He wants to go on walks, play and seeking other dogs in the park. He has been on slightly longer walks.
4/ the antibiotics seem to be working, he is on a 2nd dose of stronger medication which we hope will keep working.
5/ he is sleeping better - not waking up in the night or being restless.

Things to keep an eye on

1/ as he still has liver issues we need to stick to a liver friendly diet. Trying to cut treats out & offer healthy fruit and veg more.
2/ he still has a cough, like he is choking sometimes 😷 it stops him in his tracks & worse after drinking. We will ask vet if this is related to his condition or possibly Lar Par disease.
3/ keep building his weight up, especially his muscle mass & strength which was really affected by losing weight & being so poorly. His back and back legs especially are weak.

So a vast improvement 🌟..I actually can’t believe the improvements. Since he is a senior dog 11 years & 9 months it’s remarkable he has bounced back. We are so grateful & happy 😃 and thankful to all our #ınstadog friends.

We love you 🥰

And I would say it’s always worth a second opinion from a vet, always follow your gut instincts and follow what your dog is trying to tell you x

It’s been a hot 🥵 one
Hope all your fur friends are staying cool 😎 if you are in this heatwave
This is yesterday’s trot to the park around 7pm when it wasn’t quite as hot. Tonight he had a short stroll and been mainly under a cold wet towel and fan.

I’m still standing 🐻
It’s been a tiring week & I’ve been poorly too… yet another one but Bear 🐻 is still here ❤️ .

The positives 💫
Still enjoying his walks with a hop and a skip
Eating more types of foods - sardines, eggs, steak, watermelon, toast , my beef sandwich 🥪 😅
He is seeking love and affection ❤️from us, he even grabbed a few of his toys and wanted us to play 😀
He has barked when the postman comes.
He loves chilling in the garden 🪴 , pottering and sniffing.
He takes his meds like a champ 👍.

Not so good 😔
He continues to loose weight & won’t eat the volume of food we need him too. He hasn’t got that lab appetite back 🥲
He has lost a lot of muscle and fat & look frail and old for his age. 🥹
He isn’t cured despite the antibiotics and meds his liver is still an issue - it makes him feel nauseous & affects his appetite. Poor boy 🙈.
The new antibiotics made this worse so we had to pause on them for a while. 🤷‍♀️

It’s tough watching your best friend lose their strength & get so skinny 🥲.

I’m due to catch up with the vets tomo & weigh him. I’m looking for silver linings right now. We need more good luck 🍀.

Yet again your love ❤️ & support has got us through the week. Thanks friends 😀

Bear 🐻 is still fighting , still being strong 💪
Grateful for more time with my boy and thanks so much for your suggestions & comments on a bucket list. Some of it will just be quiet time cuddling, picnics, evening sunsets, more family pictures.
Unfortunately the 2nd lot of antibiotics which we started at the weekend have zonked him. They have some nasty side affects because they are so strong. They make him sleepy and lethargic and out of it. The worst part they suppress him appetite. The opposite of what we need. 🙈 He needs building up because he is so skinny and fragile.
Speaking to the vet again Wednesday to see what we can do & weigh him. In the meantime we keep tempting him with small meals 6 times a day & may hold back on the tablets.

He is an amazing boy 🐻 we love him so much for fighting and staying with us. Today I shared a picnic with him in the garden. Just us two. Eggs, steak, toast & yogurt for him. Hoping tomorrow we have a good day. One day at a time, hour by hour. Tonight he pinched my watermelon 🍉, he hasn’t done that in months. It made me smile 😊 a little bit of Bear magic 🪄. I hope it continues. #bearthedog #seniordog #itsthesmallthings #myboy #makingmemories by @buddybearadventures

This happy 😃 jump had to have its own post for some reason it cut the jumping on the main reel. So here is his happy jump.
Happy Bear 🐻 despite everything
