Congrats @todrick on the first preview of @midnight It’s been a long journey back to New York and Midnight proves Todrick was never planning a quiet homecoming. He wrote, directed AND choreographed the whole damn thang. At this point I’m assuming he also programmed the lighting, tuned the mics, painted the theatre and personally assigned everyone their seats.
And this CAST. Good LORD. It’s basically two hours of “vocals have entered the chat and breathing has left.” A nonstop sung-through musical with huge voices, rocking music and choreography that simply refuses to let these people rest. They’re belting for their lives while dancing full-out. By intermission, I needed oxygen and I was sitting down. The talent and stamina are ridiculous.
And then “Black Excellence.” My favorite song and moment of the night. An absolute anthem. The Met just did an entire gala celebrating Black Dandyism and meanwhile Todrick had the theme song sitting right here. Missed opportunity, Anna.
Huge congratulations to Todrick, this insanely talented cast and the entire company on first preview.
MIDNIGHT has officially struck New York. If you’re looking for the Off-Broadway show this season with the biggest vocals and fiercest choreography, I think we found it. The vocals are so big, they’re practically auditioning for Broadway from downtown.

There’s something insanely cool about getting to witness a project at its very first world premiere preview, before the world gets ahold of it. Like discovering the next superstar group in a tiny club before they explode into stadiums and history books. You can still feel the rawness, the adrenaline, the “wait… this could actually become huge” energy in the room. That kind of theatre magic hits different.

Tony Awards Eve. One year later and Nicole Scherzinger’s Tony performance still feels like Norma Desmond hijacked the telecast for three minutes and said “you’re welcome.” Nicole emerging barefoot out of the darkness to remind Broadway what a STAR actually looks like. No props. No gimmicks. Just vibes, trauma, cheekbones, and vocals powerful enough to short-circuit Times Square. Still miss @nicolescherzinger in @sunsetblvdmusical so much.

Marvelous May. Aka Magic May. Aka Broadway’s annual celebrity migration season.
Every May, Broadway turns into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Met Gala brings every celebrity known to mankind into town and apparently somehow the next stop after couture and MET bathroom selfies is always an 8pm curtain in Midtown.
Then Tony nominations drop and suddenly every theatre becomes a live action game of “wait… is that actually RDJ?” Celebrities, Tony voters, industry legends, people in dramatic scarves speed running theatre season between couture fittings and after parties. By mid May, spotting an Oscar winner in the orchestra starts feeling weirdly casual.
This reel alone somehow turned into an Avengers level crossover episode. Spotted Robert Downey Jr, Hugh Jackman, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, and a whole parade of actors casually roaming Broadway like it’s Comic Con for theatre adults.
Truly one of the best times of year to keep your eyes peeled at the theatre. One minute you’re sobbing in Act 2, the next minute you realize a literal Oscar winner is reaching for the same bathroom door as you.
Marvelous May indeed.

Mariska Hargitay going from advocating for survivors on SVU to advocating for mental health on Broadway feels like a perfect Broadway debut. What you may not know is that Mariska is a regular audience on the Great White Way. One time she was sitting behind me at a show and concentrating on what was happening on stage became completely impossible because SVU reruns were basically a ritual for years. Sorry to the cast. Mariska was the show that night.
As for Every Brilliant Thing, it is funny, moving, deeply human, and a beautiful reminder that sometimes the smallest things can keep us going. The entire play is essentially about collecting small reasons, small joys, and small victories that add up to a life worth living. It is clever, hopeful, and deeply on theme, which makes Mariska feel like such a natural fit for it.
Was also lucky enough to see Daniel Radcliffe absolutely slay in this same play months ago. Huge congratulations on the Tony nominations. Not many performers can go from wizardry to fiercely loyal Tony Award winning singing best friend, to emotional devastation quite so seamlessly. The range is frankly offensive.
Pro tip for future audiences:
• Show up early. Mariska scouts for participants before the show.
• Grab seats near designated audience participation section to be close to the action. I was behind the “husband.”
• If sitting on stage, consider bringing a jacket, watch, pen, book (amusing titles work best), a pair of cool socks, and memorize a short joke or two. Trust me.
A Broadway debut with heart, purpose, and a whole lot of brilliance. Congratulations.

Titanic if directed by gay delusion, vocal runs, and a Vegas residency running entirely on Red Bull and sequins.
Céline Dion narrating the Jack and Rose saga like she personally survived it herself somehow makes more sense than the actual movie. And when Tina Turner showed up AS THE ICEBERG and came rolling down the river straight through Jack and Rose’s little floating IKEA door situation? My soul immediately unbuckled its life vest and chose the Atlantic.
More camp. More celebrity impressions. More unnecessary power vocals. Honestly this Titanic sank exactly the way it deserved to. Gloriously.
And before anyone questions the historical accuracy, I’ve been to Titanic Belfast and the entire museum basically ends with Céline receiving an honorary maritime degree.

Throwback to @rachelzegler Olivier Award winning @officialevita , when all of London got a free balcony blessing of Don’t Cry for Me Argentina while the real immaculate chaos was unfolding inside the Palladium. @fabianaloise quietly secured his Olivier with choreography that never stops moving, @_diegorodz_ earned a Best Actor nomination, @jon__clark concert lighting and @jamielloyd @jamielloydco racked up five nominations and declared subtlety officially out of office.
We are now fully in this production’s Rainbow Tour era, collecting every color of hope because this pop opera world tour has one stop left: Broadway.
So don’t cry for me, Broadway… start manifesting and clearing the street permits now, because that balcony moment is about to become a must stop NYC monumental tour stop and full blown pilgrimage. Just book the transfer already.

If @lostboysmusical is an actual movie and I had a remote control in my orchestra seat, I would rewind the night forever just to hear @ljbenet and @ali.louis sing again and again and again. Dark, hypnotic, and just dangerous enough, those voices are unreal. And finding out they both lived in Tommy at one point or another sent me straight into the fog.
