It has been a good long while since my last post, and I am hoping to correct that in the near future. After a great many life changes, ive finished another ten berzerkers, bringing me up to thirts of a still planned forty. It was interesting to see how some of the changes to my painting translated here. You know, ever since this model was released ive always wanted one. But forgeworld resin is tough to work with, forgeworld is expensive, and it did not want to get into Horus Heresy at that time (or for a long time honestly.) This was not forgeworld resin, though it was not a walk in the park. Cool model, packed with detail and it was a joy to work on. But boy am I glad I only need one, not a lot of posability. Meant to create this post a little while ago, but life happens. Originally this was going to be a second heavy support squad wielding heavy bolters. But the more I thought about it, the less thrilled I was with the idea. So instead a support squad with volkite calivers! Fewer shots and worse ap vs a heavy bolter, but better strength and deflagerate potential. Word Bearers heavy weapon squad. First opportunity to work on the mk3 power armor and I have to say that I like it a bit more than the mk2. This is also after a few weeks where ive become more familiar with my own paint scheme and steps (which has evolved a little since inception.) Biggest pain point during painting was the head, because space was so limited thank to the missile launchers. The second character for my Horus Heresy Word Bearers is complete. Primarily going to be run as a Diabolist, but he can also fit as a Chaplain. Loved how these scheme came out on mkVI armor and I cant wait to work on more. This model is a slight kitbash of both legion overseers. The first five of my next army project: Horus Heresy Word Bearers! Funny enough I only took this plunge after seeing a video from @mediocre_hobbies where he uses contrast brown. I had to try it out for myself, so I bought a box of marines (worst case I have test models for other paint schemes) and loved the results I got; so thank you Andy. Ive chosen Word Bearers in part to have a traitor faction for Horus Heresy and because I overall like their rules in HH 3.0. As with my auxilia, I plan on collecting around 3500-4000 points worth of models. First squad of noise marines, with one more planned after this. Games workshop kits these days are generally a joy to work with, barring the higher number of mono pose (but that's what kitbashing is for!) These guys were fun, though the pink is a pain as usual to make smooth (anyone have any basecoat recommendations because abaddon black is killing me.) The second each of my Biologus Putrifier and Tallyman. Happy with how both came out, just enough of a dirty and dark feel to them. I've been playing with some very character heavy Death Guard lists of late, and the extra punch and command points are extremely useful. List wise I generally switch between Champions of Contagion, Flyblown Host, Mortarions Hammer, and the Shamblerot Vectorum. Progress on my Emperors Children So far two squads of Tormentors and Lucius the Eternal have been finished. And I've got to say I love the way Lucius came out. For this project i decided to finally learn how to thin my paints and not just rely on contrast paints. This will come as no surprise to those who already thin their paints but the difference is noticeable. It's still annoying at times, but I now thin to much more than not enough. Overall paint scheme I wanted to go with a stark contrast between bright and dark tones, and the base rims are a bit of a joke suggest by @roguestategames and I think it fits quite nicely. I still have 10 more tormentors, 10 infractors, 1 lord exultant, 2 kakophonists, 12 noise marines, 18 flawless blades, and 5 terminators to go for this project. It took a while, but my Harlequin force is complete. 2000 points of my take on the Masque of the Midnight Sorrow consisting of two Troupe Masters, a Shadowseer, two Death Jesters, a Solitaire, twenty Troupe, twelve Skyweaver bikes, two Voidweavers, and four Starweavers. Overall this was very fun to work on, though there are things about it is am glad I won't have to do again (some bits are very fiddly.)
