Deadstock 1980s Daycare Merch Grouping. Healthknit Crewneck and Screen Stars T Shirts.

Really dig the font on this one. Super groovy, man. The graphic, typeface and absence of an area code on the phone number are all screaming 1970s to me but the tags are without a doubt 1980s. That is one funky ‘a’ on the kids Screen Stars tag. Probably used older graphics on newer blanks.

1960s ‘Dogs of War’ Short Sleeve Raglan Sweatshirt

This piece was found in the house of a Korean War veteran.

I’m not sure exactly where the graphic comes from. After a bit of research, I found a book titled ‘Let Slip the Dogs of War’ that details the GHQ 1st Raider Company’s time during the beginning of the Korean War. It’s possible the original owner of this sweatshirt was a member of that unit.

It’s also possible that the graphic is a general reference to the dogs that were used in the US Armed Forces during this time. Up to and during the Korean War, canine sentries were used regularly on patrols to silently alert US troops when enemies were detected.

Measures 17 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches.

Original 1940s Torpedomans N1 Parka Deck Jacket

The USN Cold Weather Deck Parka was used from late World War II through the Korean War, and while it is descended from the N-1 deck jacket, it features heavier materials with better heat retention. It has an oversized silhouette, an integrated hood, and an extra-thick alpaca pile liner, designed to be worn in severe cold weather.

Big fan of the spring loaded Crown.

Contract number and size has faded, but jacket measures 24 x 42 inches.

Pieces like this are my favorite part of collecting. It’s an honor to be a steward of this shirt.

1940s US Navy Chambray Work Shirt with Stencil and Corresponding ‘Paul Osenkarski’ Yearbook.

It’s been a fun head scratcher piecing together the history on this one.

As I looked at the shirt and read the yearbook, I was getting more questions than answers. This shirt is from 1943 (Contract 22375), but Paul’s junior yearbook is from 1960. It’s likely he wasn’t born yet when the shirt (and/or stencil) were made. I was enamored with Helen’s ballpoint pen stencil, and I hoped to find her photo in the yearbook - but Paul went to Saint Bede, at the time an all boys school - and none of the nuns were named Helen that year.

After tracking down the family tree, I learned that Paul was named after his father. And Paul’s mother was named Helen. In my opinion, this shirt is likely a keepsake that Paul Jr. kept from his father’s time in the Navy. Records show that his father joined in 1943, the year this shirt’s contract was fulfilled, and the year that Paul Jr. would be born.

At the end of the day, this shirt is a tangible piece of history that documents the lives of the people who wore it, drew on it, and held on to it for more than eighty years, and I’m happy to have it in my collection.

1950s Sears Hercules Gabardine Ricky Jacket🍷

Really like the pocket stitching on this one. Small accents like this give these Rockabilly jackets so much character.

Unfortunately the zipper is deteriorating on this one, and the Talon pull has detached. The jacket itself is in solid condition, and at 21x23 inches it’s a very wearable size.
