Plant Material by @sand_duney is the debut LP for this former Portland now Missoula based solo project from songwriter and guitar and pedal steel extraordinaire Jessica Jones. Plant Material contains a collection of home recordings over the last 6 years or so, running the gamut from driving atmospheric twang to introspective and lyrical folk songs. All with a beautiful home recorded sheen. Corelease with @anything_bagel tapes on @orindalrecords Split tape from @the_spookfish and @two_steppes Two great projects from the great state of New York. The Spookfish blends fingerstyle guitar and lofi beat, synth, and tape experiments into a remarkably cohesive collection. Two Steppes crafts soaring atmospheric songs featuring vocals, guitars synths and more. Bug Noise is the new tape from Eternal Compost Community Band, a loose collective around the label @mossytapes in London who improvise and do sound experiments (check their new tape on Yard Sale for World Peace too). Bug Noise is a deep dive into the life of various bugs featuring fractured and fried recordings of the sounds of various bugs at their various life stages with sounds of legs, pincers, wings and more blending into psychedelic fervor. by @budtapes

~new album is out today! one side of the tape is new songs by me and the other side is new songs by my friend drew aka @two_steppes . we’re both super proud of what we made for this and it’s an honor to release music along drew. ~drew’s music has inspired me a lot over the years. the first time I saw him play, it was in the ruins of an old barn and felt like I’d seen ghost or some supernatural occurrence. he immediately asked if anyone knew where to find a milkshake and we became good friends from there. ~huge thank you to the amazing @budtapes for releasing this and dubbing the tapes by hand and also huge thank you to @plebeian.biz for mastering this. ❤️ by @budtapes

🌷Today you can hear and watch a music video for “Jacaranda” the second single from the upcoming Sand Duney record!  This one is a meditative, summer track about blossoms, wood, and repetitive tasks :) Find it wherever you listen to things, and watch full vid on YouTube 🌿Plant Material releases in full September 4th on @orindalrecords @budtapes @anything_bagel ! 🪸Pre-orders are up for cassette tapes and records. 🌳Jess writes: “I started working on the song “Jacaranda” years ago, when I was briefly living in LA and helping an artist friend in her woodshop once a week. Many of her friends would gift her pieces of interesting scrap wood as an expression of love, and one of my tasks was to help organize the wood by type and by which friend gifted it. I was so captivated by the sound of the name “Jacaranda” and its undeniable sense of place. It evoked the feeling of flying into LA in the springtime and seeing the purple blooms below. I also love repetitive work tasks and the meditative lull—how your mind wanders and returns to the task, then wanders and returns again.” 🪵Jess made the video about repetitive tasks and working on one’s craft. She writes: “I wanted to feature my new live band because they each have creative practices parallel to music. And I love them and haven’t had a chance to adequately shout them out yet :)  I liked the repetition of the seed processing and woodworking juxtaposed with the fluidity of the ceramics and the skating.” @sand_duney @jojokoho @kelly_schirmann @jayfiske_ @omo________ @seamusland 🪷The video was filmed by Jess Jones and Jules Ohman, and edited by Jess. @julesohman by @budtapes

She also writes about the practice of care and love in both creative practice and long-term partnership. Both require dedication and presence. So does finding hope and a daily rhythm in a world that’s changing in massive and indecipherable ways. Jones played every instrument on the record, including pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, organ, drums and vocals. She recorded and mixed the record herself at home in Portland, OR and Missoula, MT. The result is a record that moves and sounds like water through a deep canyon, every layer guiding us somewhere new. by @budtapes
