I know the way by heart.

Past the fountain,
through the familiar door,
to the place with the yellow umbrellas
where the world seems to slow down.

She gets coffee.
I get eggs.

A fair trade, if you ask me.

We sit outside,
watching people pass,
sharing pieces of the morning
without saying much at all.

The birds do their thing.
The breeze does its thing.
And we do ours.

I don’t know what makes a place a favorite.
Maybe it’s the sunshine.
Maybe it’s the smell of coffee.
Maybe it’s the occasional “oh what a cute girl”.
Maybe it’s knowing exactly where you belong.

All I know is once we arrive,
the morning belongs to us
And there’s no where else I’d rather be

I closed my eyes for a moment
and somewhere between sleep and waking
entire worlds appeared
