@bug_akpan From Struggle to Celebration: The Journey, Sound, and Spirit of BUGZEE

Every generation produces artists who do not merely sing music, but live it through their stories. For Enobong Emmanuel Akpan—known globally by his stage name BUGZEEE—music is a living, breathing tapestry woven from the threads of heritage, diaspora struggles, faith, and unyielding optimism.

Hailing from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and now based in the UK, BUGZEEE has built a distinct sonic identity bridging African rhythms and contemporary cross-cultural soundscapes.

From early releases like Sugarcane (2013) and Today and Tomorrow (2015) to acclaimed studio projects like 7 Shades of Bugzeee and Resilient, BUGZEEE has consistently turned lived experience into purpose-driven Afro-fusion and Afropop.

In this exclusive 4THECULTURE MAGAZINE Spotlight, BUGZEEE takes us inside his creative evolution, navigating the diaspora experience, and gearing up for his highly anticipated third studio album, Ready 2 Groove.

Discography Highlights
Singles: Sugarcane (2013) •
Today and Tomorrow (2015)

THE ORIGIN: Finding the Sonic Frequency

For BUGZEEE, discovering a signature sound was never an instantaneous moment of magic; it was the product of daily dedication, trial, and organic discovery.

“I would say it came through consistency and experimentation. The more I recorded, the more I began to understand what worked for me, what felt natural, and how I wanted my music to connect with people.”

While rooted firmly in Afro-fusion and Afropop, BUGZEEE resists being boxed into static categories.

“I see myself as an evolving artist, and I’m always open to exploring new sounds and pushing my creative boundaries. Finding your sound isn’t a by @bug_akpan
