bugbyte & friends no. 3: Meet the films (part 3)!

It’s finally time to introduce the remaining two amazing short films that will be shown at our next bugbyte and friends screening, selected by our guest curator Mariana Leal @_lealeal_

Come watch them at MayDay Rooms on October 24th!

Murs invisibles (Invisible Walls) (2025) by Florian Schonerstedt
@schonerstedtflorian
The film is made entirely with stop-motion animation of glass fragments collected on the shores of the Mediterranean. It represents a physical and material link between humanity and the sea. Driven by ecological awareness and respect for the natural environment, the materials used in this film were collected with a view to “caring” for the natural spaces explored.

Voices from the Arctic (2026) by Jess Mountfield
@jessmountfield
Voices from the Arctic invites you to join the director in the Arctic landscape she spent two summers in. Slow down and enjoy the smallest of mosses, the deep winter dark, the endless summer sun. And listen to the voices of 15 scientists describing love, loss and change in a place they call home; where the present slips ever-more quickly into the past, and the future looms ahead, uncertain.

bugbyte and friends no.3 is a screening from bugbyte and guest curator Mariana Leal [@_lealeal_] showcasing some of our favourite animated short films.

📅 24 October, 2026 - Doors at 2pm
📍MayDay Rooms, 88 Fleet St, London EC4Y 1DH

bugbyte & friends no. 3: Meet the films (part 2)!

We’re excited to share some more of the amazing short films screening at our next bugbyte and friends at MayDay Rooms on October 24th!

Smokedog (2025) by Andrew Onorato
@andrewonorato
Smokedog goes about his day

Mom’s Clothes (2018) by Jordan Wong
@okjordanwong
A nonfiction reflection on being out of the closet. As a queer person of color, it’s taken me a long time to be as comfortable as I am through navigating forms of intimacy, gender, and self worth. It doesn’t always get better, but you’re beautiful however you decide to present, including the choice of garments you decide to wear.

The Discrete Shapes (2026) by Lou-Ann Nony
@louloulaigreur
A sample of an unknown life form is observed by a clinical eye through its many layers. As the loops that animate it unfold, the sample awakens, then bursts apart. The tiny particles contained within the life form organize and harmonize to give rise to a new creature.

Bugbyte and Friends no.3 Meet the films! (part 1)

We’re excited to start announcing the amazing short films we will be screening at our next bugbyte and friends screening at Mayday rooms on the 24 October.

Hungry Hollow (2025) by Sarah Ruyle
@w4lkingfish
A gaggle of forest sprites mingle and cavort at the watering hole, so to speak.

A Pint of Bitter (2026) by Conor Kehelly @conor_kehelly_art
You are trying to enjoy a quiet pint in the pub but a patron and his son seemingly have a problem with your demeanour.

Choo,choo,choo,choose (2024) by Xiaohan Sun @hereisxiaohan_hi
A little girl was shopping for groceries with her mother. Unfortunately, they met a neighbour, and her mother kept chatting with the neighbour for a long, long time. No matter how hard the little girl pulled or shouted, her mother would not respond.
At that time, she thought, if I died at the present, would they stop?

A Night at the Rest Area (2024) by Saki Muramoto @saki_muramoto_sketch
At a midnight highway rest area, the weary travelers each quietly relax their minds. A brief moment spent with complete strangers is lonely yet somehow comforting.
