Firstly, please share this post far and wide!!! This is my friend @wafa.mohammed2 . She and her family are the first Palestinians I ever knowingly spoke to. They are amazing people who deserve so much better than they have on their plates. She, her husband and her little one, Omar, are stuck in Gaza while her other son, Mo Saleh, was evacuated when Rafah was still open. Their family is split and crave reunification. They have not received donations in 2 months. She has lost so much weight I am more than officially worried. Please. Save my friend. Donate whatever you can. Help them to stay sheltered, warm, hopefully dry and fed. by @bugreborn

Welcome to the most beautiful month of the year! Despite our wounds and pain, and our wish to spend Ramadan in our homes this year, we must still celebrate its arrival and honor the rituals of God. I managed to catch @wafa.mohammed2 for a bit of a chat today! She is the first person from Gaza that I had ever met. We spoke about the state of Gaza, her sons, the flooding, what’s available in the markets and how it is difficult to get donations and why they still need your attention …. They still need help to feed and shelter their family. They are trying to raise money also to help pay for school fees for her son who was evacuated when Rafah was open. Unfortunately we were cut short because the light died and her internet went out but I loved chatting with her.

Today I found out that my friend’s family has no food and lost their roof. No aid has come to their village yet. The more aid we get into the country, the faster we can get it to those who need it. Please donate generously. by @bugreborn

A request for you.
My family in Jamaica are unscathed after Hurricane Melissa (thanks be to God), but there are many, many, MANY other families who were affected and who are in even worse straits right now. Jamaica needs your help. Here are Toronto and Ottawa contacts to help out - and don’t forget the charity fete they are going to throw as well in Toronto. All proceeds go to hurricane relief. Please do your best to help - it will save lives…even the littlest amounts. I know Cuba also needs a lot of help but I have not had a moment to look into their efforts yet. The Freedom Flotilla is less than 24 hours away from Gazan waters and the Israhelli forces. The fact that the sent most of the precious flotilla back hints that they were making space for those on this ship. There are six Canadians on the Conscience and many many other citizens of this world are travelling with them.
This is how you can help. Please do something other that sit and shake your head. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Protect humanity. Protect the flotilla members. Save Gaza. Free Palestine. by @bugreborn

More quiet thoughts.
The structure is called the Peace Tower. It is the Tower that is front and center at Centreblock, the central building (of three) on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. This is where, traditionally, both the House of Commons (Parliament) and Senate Chambers are located.

The Peace Tower marks the entrance to the building that was designed to be the “public” entrance. The idea was that public would be able to enter the Queen’s Gate, walk directly across the lawn, up the stairs through the open doors and into the building to relay their concerns to the heads of state. It is how the designers understood the very essence of Canada to be. Cooperative and empathetic, versatile, accepting and diverse….the very reasons why we can proudly say that we are NOT the US.

In the modern day, those doors are locked. No not just because of the construction but because of security concerns after at least one shooter attempting to get into the building in the last few decades.

It makes me sad every time I think of it because yes, security is a concern in our modern days…..but in a way that symbolic openness and availability of Government is gone….and that does one main thing that I want to point out. It divides Government from the people physically and mentally. It formulates the concept that Government is an untouchable elite instead of elected officials who were placed there by the people to work for the people for the betterment of all Canadian society.

And what a time we live in. A time where this divide is bigger than ever with those doors not just staying shut physically, but somehow acoustically as well. I don’t know why the Canadian Government refuses to hear us. Actually, maybe I do. Money is King. War is money. And the very Canadian thing to do (according to my experience, research and learning) is be underlying racist to protect “whiteness” yet appear diverse, hypocritical to avoid direct conflict, and generally scornful to true humanity.

I hope something breaks and there are some massive changes soon, because if it doesn’t …. Then even with a liberal government in power, we are proving that we are indeed the 51st state. by @bugreborn
