Every Monday at The Cobalt just got a whole lot better. We're hosting a weekly flea market alongside subculture bingo with weekly prizes, $5 Pabst Blue Ribbons, and selectors @v3rminnocent, @trapula666, and @bugsyfaithfull blasting punk, goth, metal, Oi!, and rock and roll all night.

Playing with the Templars on my 38th birthday weekend was amazing but having @hugolavoie43 who has been a brother and friend for two decades stay with us for a week was the the highlight. I woke up the day after we left and was like what crazy shit are we gonna get up and remembered and was sad haha. We might be tough guys but this dude makes me crack the fuck up every three minutes. I don’t have many heroes. As an anarchist and syndicalist, I don’t believe in great leaders or blind followers. I believe in direct democracy, voluntary association, local stewardship of the land, and constantly questioning hierarchy and authority to ask whether they’re necessary at all. I believe ordinary people, organizing together, can build a better future.

If I have a hero, it’s Buenaventura Durruti.

Today is his birthday. The first thing I ever painted at the Cobalt was a portrait of Durruti. His words have stuck with me for years:

“We carry a new world here, in our hearts.”

And another quote that has always resonated with me:

“We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that… We carry a new world here, in our hearts. That world is growing this minute.”

I got told i couldn’t be tattoo artist because I don’t understand light and shadow at 15 and I know I am not good at drawing. It’s nice to get told by people from people that my propaganda light makes our spot pop by visitors from all over. I am so proud and this is like a 20th of our bar. ❤️/🖤🙌💣💥🔥! 🌈🍉 and the chalk will always change taken in The Cobalt by @bugsyfaithfull

The last few months have been so great to us playing with @thechiseluk was amazing. @cal.gra was an absolute gem it was chill to sit and have some drinks in the green room. Last week we played with @betonarme_514 for a second time and @prestonite is always amazing to chill with. I promised @nightshadeforests I wouldn’t hit myself with bottles anymore but I got a little carried away ranted about neoliberalism and Canadian politicians virtue signaling and smashed a plastic rocks glass on my head which it course split my head open and we played our last song with blood spraying out of my head again and had to apologize to @first_attack_oi for all the blood I had to clean up on stage before they played 🤦‍♂️ anyhow. Toy Tiger has been having a blast 💣💥🔥❤️/🖤💪😜

We have some photo collages coming up from the last little bit. We’ve been playing with so many amazing bands that we grew up on. Montreal Oi! Fest was amazing and we got to play with so many bands we listened to and grew up on. It was really amazing to see Last Resort and go nuts. Ultra Razzia are our homies and we somehow can’t seem to play three shows without two of us wearing their shirts.

Playing a fest with Newtown Neurotics was crazy. The first time I put on the Punk and Disorderly compilation, “Kick Out the Tories” came on and I was 14 and just played it over and over and got really into them. It was amazing talking to Steve and saying thank you.

They were so ahead of their time talking about media literacy, community, organizing, and had songs that were hard punk rock bangers that made me feel there was nothing wrong with the fact I can’t get through a Simpsons episode I’ve seen 100 times where Marge and Homer fight and still cry every time, knowing they’ll get back together, but still won’t stand for injustice and stand beside as not just as an ally but as an accomplice and fight for fellow humans because an injury to one is an injury to all. Losing a fight or struggle usually sucks, pick your battles but not helping someone in need or doing the right thing is so much worse. ❤️💪🔥🖤
