POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Elsa van der Linden @elsavanderlinden does research on how to capture the moment, by listening, performing and documenting. As a musician and scenographer, she is interested in the unexpected events of an environment. She plays with the saxophone as instrument and the space as co-player. Improvisation is a perfect tool for her to listen to what is already there and use that as a starting point to create a moment-specific experience.

Lucas Kloosterboer @kom_vechten is fascinated by rituals, big sound, and rhythm. Rhythm is almost always the starting point for him: the transcendentality of endless repetition, the earthiness of a good groove, the magic of a complex interlocking pattern. As an improvising trombonist and part-time percussionist, Lucas is always looking for a driving force, a sound or line that creates momentum. Both as a musician and as Neerlandicus and text performer, Lucas is all about listening between the lines for the raw, ragged poetry that emerges there. by @bui.utrecht

Mees Siderius @meessiderius is a percussionist and composer. Fascinated by the concept of "infinity," Mees pursues ceaselessly long tones and sound concepts with his drums. His performances revolve around repetition, building kinetic rhythmic momentum and minimalism.
His passion for innovative percussive textures and collaborative energy led him to the art of improvisation and interdisciplinary performance. by @bui.utrecht

For the first time in six years, BUI will not be playing at Gaudeamus this September. Never fear though, because all three BUI members will still be present!

Lucas @kom_vechten will perform with Collectief Wezen @collectief.wezen! He's written a few pieces for their new performance, which is titled Mijn zus, te paard. They will play in Paardenkathedraal, a beautiful old veterinary building converted into a theater.

Elsa @elsavanderlinden presents the results of a residency that couldn't happen. War prevented her from going to Kurdistan, but it didn't prevent her from collecting sounds from afar, and stitching those together to build an entrance into the imagination.

Mees will perform with Studio Vacuum @studiovacuum, also in Paardenkathedraal. A Myth is a sensory musical performance wherein vocals, movement, brass, and percussion create an unrecognizable space to dream of stories in. by @bui.utrecht

Seven performances unfold across different spaces inside and outside the two forts, four indoors and the rest outdoors. On Monday, don’t miss the last Impro Jam of the season, this time at Onderbuik, a former command bunker in Utrecht!

This edition will be hosted together with BUI, a collective that is both an ensemble and a group of organizers committed to adventurous music and art.

Impro Jam weaves into their Freeplay Sessions and we’ll start early with a working session: a slightly more in depth playing together, working on questions and ideas around improvisation. After a soup together, we continue with the Impro Jam night!

BUI members Elsa van der Linden and Lucas Kloosterboer will perform as part of the initial group together with Felicity Provan and Ada Rave.

About the Impro Jam 🎲 it’s a meeting point to explore free improvisation and experimental music through collaboration, curiosity, and spontaneous music-making. Initiated in 2014 by saxophonist Ada Rave, each event starts with an initial group of artists, then other musicians are welcome to join with their instrument and jam on stage. Bring your instruments, dancers welcome!

Tradition meets experiment

Saba Alizadeh, born in Tehran and now based in the Netherlands, is a leading figure in Iran’s underground electronic and experimental music scene. As a virtuoso of the kamancheh, he carries the spirit of Iranian classical music while constantly reimagining its sonic possibilities.

His work bridges precision and exploration, tradition and experimentation.
