My journey hasn’t been a straight line, but it’s built me.

This is a little glimpse into my journey—how I went from gymnast ➝ coach ➝ PT ➝ CrossFit ➝ shoulder replacement➝ business owner. It’s been full of injuries, lessons, and big wins, but the best part has been finding a way to help others grow stronger and more confident in their bodies.

I’d love to know…what’s ONE part of my story you relate to the most? Or, tell me something about YOUR journey in sports/fitness below! ☺️

And if you know someone who’d connect with this, share it with them 💕

A well-rounded strength program should include a variety of movement patterns to build strength, improve performance, and keep your body healthy.

For gymnasts specifically, I love emphasizing vertical pressing and horizontal pulling because we already tend to do lots of push-ups & pull-ups with traditional gymnastics conditioning. But these patterns hold true for ALL athletes!

Overhead pressing helps build strength and control in positions gymnasts use all the time, while horizontal pulling develops upper back and shoulder strength. Both can play an important role in shoulder health and better movement control throughout the body.

And of course, we can’t forget about squatting, hinging, and single-leg strength for powerful takeoffs, controlled landings, and overall lower body strength.

Are these the ONLY movements you need? Nope! But they’re a great foundation.

And yes, I love adding plyometrics on FIRM surfaces too, but that’s a conversation for another day. 😉

Train smarter. Build stronger athletes. & let me know how ai can help!

Hey BOO! 👻💕 Just a few reminders for you all this Halloween!

Don’t be afraid to be strong, take up space, try hard things, or chase goals that seem a little scary.

Somewhere along the way, girls can start to believe they need to be smaller, quieter, less muscular, less confident, or more concerned with what other people think. And I want to keep changing that narrative.

I want girls to be afraid of missing out on what they’re capable of, NOT afraid of what other people might think of them.

So here’s your reminder to be bold, build strength, believe in yourself, and never apologize for going after big things.

You’ve got one body and one life. Let’s see what you can do with them!

Happy Halloween from Built by Borda! 🎃⚡️💕

What IS scary? Raising a generation of girls who believe their bodies are the problem. 👻

Girls shouldn’t be afraid of getting strong, building muscle, taking up space, or going after big goals.

But somewhere along the way, so many girls learn that being smaller is better. That muscles are too bulky. That they shouldn’t be too loud, too confident, too strong, or take up too much space. That being liked and making other people comfortable is more important than being themselves.

And the thing is, we don’t always realize how early those messages start.

Working with so many young girls, and now raising a five-year-old daughter of my own, it’s become even more obvious to me how much girls pick up from the world around them. The little comments, the expectations, the things we say about ourselves, and the things we praise them for.

I don’t want girls growing up believing they need to shrink themselves, physically or otherwise, to make other people comfortable.

I want girls who are strong, confident, bold, and willing to go after big things. Girls who appreciate their bodies for what they can DO instead of constantly worrying about how they LOOK.

I want girls to be afraid of missing out on what they’re capable of, not afraid of what their bodies might look like along the way.

Because strong isn’t scary. Taking up space isn’t scary.

But a girl never realizing her full potential because she was too worried about what other people thought? That’s scary. ⚡️

Halloween candy isn’t the problem. But the way we talk about it might be. 🍬

Every year, there’s so much conversation about what to do with all that Halloween candy. Should we limit it? Hide it? Trade it in? How much is too much? How do we keep our kids from eating it all?

But I think we need to pay a little more attention to what our girls are hearing in these conversations.

And it’s not just what we say to THEM. It’s what they hear us say about ourselves.

“I was so bad today.”
“I shouldn’t be eating this.”
“I need to work this off tomorrow.”
“I can’t have any more sugar.”

When we constantly label foods as good or bad, talk about feeling guilty after eating, or act like exercise is something we need to do to make up for enjoying a treat, we’re teaching girls something about food AND their bodies.

And those messages can stick (for a long time!)

Now, I’m not saying kids don’t need boundaries around candy. Of course they do! We absolutely should be teaching our girls about nutrition, the importance of protein, and how different foods help their bodies grow, recover, and perform.

But we don’t teach healthy habits by villainizing certain foods or making girls feel guilty for enjoying them.

We can teach nutrition without creating fear around food. We can encourage healthy choices without labeling foods as bad. And we can teach girls to take care of their bodies without making them feel like their bodies are something that constantly needs to be fixed.

I want girls to grow up understanding that being healthy includes eating nutritious foods, getting strong, moving their bodies, AND enjoying Halloween candy without guilt.

Sometimes candy can just be candy. 🎃

And maybe this Halloween, the best thing we can do is pay a little more attention to how we’re talking about it. Give this a share!

Another amazing Grace event in the books! 💕

I always love seeing people get together for a great workout, a little shopping, lots of fun, and most importantly, a cause that really matters.

I love watching everyone show up, give the workout a try, support the local businesses, and just enjoy being part of something bigger. Whether you came to sweat, shop, donate, or cheer everyone on, you helped make the day a success!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out and supported Pink Ribbon Good, an incredible organization doing important work for individuals and families impacted by breast and gynecological cancers.

Events like this are such a great reminder of what makes our community so special. We can have fun, get a little fitness in, and make a difference at the same time. 💗

Already looking forward to the next one! ⚡️

There are still SO many myths surrounding girls and strength training! Unfortunately a lot of them keep girls from realizing how strong, capable, and confident they can become!

Girls deserve more than being told to stay small.
They deserve to build strength…To feel powerful…To trust their bodies…To learn hard things.

Strength training, when coached appropriately, can help girls improve confidence, athletic performance, resilience, coordination, bone health, and injury resistance … and more girls deserve access to that.

That’s exactly why I’m so passionate about creating positive lifting environments for teen + tween girls. 💪

Give this a share to spread the message! Let me know which myth you’ve heard the most!! & join us for a lifting class!

Gymnasts, are you ignoring any of these these red flags?

These aren’t normal (just super common so you might think they are 😭)… they’re signs you need a smarter plan.

That’s exactly what we do in the Wellness Club. Comment PREHAB for info!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while I think it’s incredibly important to bring attention to breast cancer, I also think it’s an opportunity to have a bigger conversation about women’s health.

As a physical therapist, I get to work with a lot of young female athletes, but I also get the opportunity to be around so many amazing moms and women in our community. And the older I get, the more I realize just how important these conversations are.

For me, breast cancer isn’t just a statistic. My grandmother had breast cancer, so it’s something I’ve always been aware of in my own family. I’ve had multiple Built by Borda girls whose moms have gone through breast cancer, and two years ago, the first of my own Built by Borda girls went through her own battle.

It’s one thing to know that approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. It’s another thing to see how many people around you have been affected by it.
And while breast cancer is something we absolutely need to talk about, it’s not the only women’s health concern that deserves our attention.

One of the reasons I’m so passionate about working with young female athletes is that I want them to understand that taking care of their bodies is about so much more than sports performance or appearance. We’re building habits, confidence, and knowledge that I hope will help them advocate for their health long after their athletic careers are over.

And for all the moms and women who spend so much time taking care of everyone else, I hope this is a reminder that your health deserves that same attention.

We can’t prevent every diagnosis, but we can learn more about our bodies, understand our risks, make healthy choices, and stop putting off the things that matter.

That’s also why we’re hosting Grace with Friends on October 23, raising money for Pink Ribbon Good to support people and families facing breast and gynecological cancers.

Because taking care of ourselves matters. And showing up for each other matters, too. 🩷

Hope to see you there! Pick a slide to share!
