I started this post with…

“If Christ knows you.”

That might strike you as odd.

But there are many people who profess to know Christ, while their lives show no evidence of belonging to Christ.

Jesus Himself warned that there will be people who say, “Lord, Lord,” only to hear, “I NEVER KNEW YOU.”

That is the question.

Not merely, Do you think you know Christ?
But, Does Christ know you?

Jesus spoke often about knowing His own. His sheep hear His voice. He knows them. They follow Him.

And the evidence that you are known by Christ is not sinless perfection. It is a life that is increasingly marked by Him.

You walk with Him.
You obey Him.
You love Him.
You love His sheep.
You hate the sin that sent Him to His cross.
You desire His Word.
And when you fall, you return to Him.

Not perfectly! But powerfully!

Because a man who has truly been known, called, and changed by Christ cannot remain unchanged by Christ.

And Christian, if He knows you, then He knows all of you.

Your tears.
Your wanderings.
Your weary steps.
Your needs.
Your cares.

None of them escape His notice or His perfect care and you can take that to the bank!

A lot of this post was inspired by Thomas Manton and his writings found in “Holy Meditation.”

I could not recommend his book more highly. If you want to learn how to think deeply about God, His providence, His care, His Word, and your own soul, read it with your Bible open because His Word will prove He cares for you!

And when you have tasted this kind of care from God, you cannot help but want others to know something of it too.

That is a huge part of the burden God has put on Chrissy and me for the fatherless.

We are in the process of closing on BUILTREADY RANCH, a 29-acre ranch for fatherless boys where, by God’s grace and God’s power, we will raise up boys to be strong athletes and mighty men of God.

Would you help us?

Would you pray? Would you partner with us financially with whatever the Lord has entrusted to you, from $5 a month to whatever He would lead you to give?

Comment RANCH and we’ll DM you the information.

As always…

God’s Word describes God’s Goodness so gloriously vast that a man’s mind can’t comprehend it.

But the more a man gives himself to the Word of God, the more he becomes blown away by the goodness of God toward him.

God’s Goodness is truly an endless ocean that overflows and overwhelms our puny cup hearts!

Lamentations 3:22–23
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Psalm 36:5–6
“Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD.”

Can I get an AMEN?

You’ve been lied to.

God does not love His people because of what they are.

He loves them despite what they are because of His grace in Christ.

And the God who saves sinners never leaves them the way He found them.

He gives the blind sight.

He gives the deaf ears to hear.

He gives the dead life.

He removes hearts of stone and gives hearts of flesh.

He makes sinners into new creations.

If your version of Christianity promises forgiveness without transformation, it isn’t the gospel Jesus preached.

This carousel isn’t meant to drive humble believers to despair. It’s meant to drive every one of us to examine ourselves by God’s Word and then flee to Christ alone.

If today you realize you’ve never truly been born again, don’t defend YOUR profession of faith! Don’t trust YOUR past decision to follow Christ!

Run to Christ.

He lived the perfect life you could never live.

He bore the wrath sinners deserve.

He died.

He was buried.

He rose again.

Beg God for mercy He doesn’t owe you and cry out to be born again and repent and believe that Jesus Christ died for you!

Everyone who repents and believes in Him will be saved.

Today is the day of salvation men. Don’t wait!

And as always, men:

Pray God’s Word.
Obey God’s Word.

Men, don’t waste your life waiting for the “next thing” while neglecting the clear commands God has already given you.

The will of God isn’t some hidden treasure that only a few Christians discover.

Everything a Christian needs to know, God has already revealed in His Word.

Serve your family.

Serve your church.

Share the gospel.

Love your wife.

Disciple your children.

Put your sin to death.

As you faithfully obey what God trust Him to lead you right where He wants you.

I love you men enough to tell you this: delayed obedience is still disobedience.

So get to work obeying our Great God.

Now obey your older brother 😂🤷🏼‍♂️ and share this with a man who needs to hear it.

Men, I am not saying, “Don’t ask God for food, clothing, and shelter,” or don’t praise Him when He provides them. They are gifts of mercy that He does not owe us.

But pray for the things that will actually satisfy your soul.

The greatest food, the nicest clothing, and the most beautiful home will never satisfy a man’s soul. Dwelling with Christ in peace is the only thing that makes a man truly happy, because he is happy in Jesus.

Our souls were built for God, and only God can satisfy our souls.

Men, whether you realize it or not, your purpose, all of our purpose, is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

Do you want to be satisfied?

Then beg God to give you a heart that wants to glorify Him, and a heart that knows just how enjoyable He is and will be for all of eternity.

Ask great things of a great God.

Men, what we see in Scripture is even the godliest men prayed these prayers to a God who owes us nothing, yet graciously gives us everything in Christ.

So humble yourself in the sight of the Lord.

Seek Him with your whole heart.

Ask Him to incline your heart.

Ask Him to open your eyes.

Ask Him to unite your heart.

Ask Him to satisfy your soul.

We need God’s help to read God’s Word rightly.

Pray these before you dare read, knowing He loves to answer these prayers.

Read God’s Word.
Pray God’s Word.
Obey God’s Word.

I’m so thankful for men like John Piper that have taught me how to pray God’s Word.

Men shouldn’t need to be coddled.

They should be watchful.

Strong.

Sober-minded.

Ready to obey.

Christ does not call men to live as slaves to every emotion, every excuse, every fear, and every wandering thought.

He calls men to watch and pray.

He calls men to obey.

He calls men to endure.

Now hear the other side.

Be patient and truthful with men who need to be coddled for the glory of God.

Patience is not compromise and Truth is not cruelty.

Some men need more comfort, correction, and help than they should.

Give it to them.

But give it to them with lovingly in truth.

Do not lie to them.

Do not flatter weakness.

Do not excuse sin.

Point them to Christ.

Two things can be true at once.

Men should not need to be coddled.

And some men need patient, truthful care while they grow.

That is not weakness from the strong man.

That is wisdom.

Tell the truth.

Stay patient.

Keep pointing them back to Christ.

Christ chided His men.

“So, could you not watch with me one hour?” Matthew 26:40

That was not coddling.

That was loving correction.

Jesus loved His disciples perfectly, and because He loved them perfectly, He corrected them truthfully.

He did not flatter their weakness.

He exposed it.

Not to crush them.

To train them.

Strong men don’t boast.

If you can command your mind, control your emotions, and stay steady under pressure, thank God.

You did not create that strength.

“What do you have that you did not receive?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

God gave it.

And most likely, He used strong men in your life to shape you, correct you, train you, and teach you how to think.

So get off your high horse.

You received strength.

Now give strength.

Be the strong man another man needs.

Not soft but not harsh.

Truthful.

Patient.

Steady.

Some men need to be comforted often.

Comfort them often with truth.

Do not baby their sin.

Do not excuse their laziness.

Do not celebrate their passivity.

But don’t beat a bruised reed into the dirt either.

Point them to Christ.

Walk with them.

Train them.

Love Christ and men enough to tell the truth.

And be patient enough to help them obey it.

We need fewer cowards and fewer chest-beating fools.

Men, if your mind runs wild every time you open the Bible, you are not alone.

But don’t make peace with it.

Train it.

Bring it under the Word.

Ask God for help.

The problem is not that God has been unclear. The problem is often that our minds are undisciplined, distracted, and full of the world.

Your mind will not become holy by accident.

It will not magically become disciplined because you own a Bible, carry a Bible, quote a Bible verse, or post one online.

You must train it.

Command it.

Bring it to the Word.

By God’s grace, with the Spirit’s help, sit down and make your mind listen to the Lord.

To “gird up the loins” means to get ready for work.

In Peter’s day, men would gather up loose garments and tie them so they could move, labor, and fight without being tangled up.

Modern language?

Tie up the loose ends of your mind.

Put the phone away.

Shut the noise off.

Sit down.

Open the Word.

Tell your wandering thoughts, “Not now. We are here to hear from God.”

That is not legalism.

That is war.

Men, don’t open the Bible like a proud fool.

Pray before you read.

“Lord, unite my heart. Kill my distractions. Humble me. Teach me. Make me fear Your name.”

We cannot understand God’s Word without God’s help.

The Spirit of God loves to help the children of God understand the Word of God.

A distracted heart usually reveals divided love.

Men don’t meditate well on what they barely love.

So ask God to make you love His Word.

Not merely study it.

Not merely quote it.

Love it.

Love gathers the heart and fixes it on the treasure.

You can’t feed your mind trash all day and then expect it to feast on glory at night.

That is foolish.

If your life is shallow, distracted, lazy, and unserious, your Bible reading will feel the same way.

The mind follows the life.

A serious life produces a mind ready to receive serious truth.

Not every distraction looks sinful.

Sometimes it’s a good idea.

A text you need to send.

A work thought.

A sermon point.

A conversation you need to have.

But if it pulls you away from the Word, deal with it like an intruder.

Write it down if you must, then get back to the text.

Charge your thoughts to stand down.

Christian men, what separates Christianity from every false religion in the world, from Roman Catholicism to Islam, is Christ.

Christ is no halfway-crook Savior.

He came to save many, and He finished His work.

I shared this same encouragement with our BUILTREADY men in The War Room this morning, and I hope it encourages you, too.

Read & believe the Word of the Lord below.

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28

“He will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

And on the cross, Jesus cried out, “It is finished.” John 19:30

What separates Christianity from every other religion is this:

Christ’s performance sealed the deal.

It is not Christ plus our works.

It is Christ.

If you are in Christ, you will never taste the righteous wrath and judgment of God because God is just, and He already poured out that righteous wrath and judgment on His Son so that He could adopt you as His son.

Men, run to Christ.

If you saw God for who He really is, you would never run away from Him. You would always run to Him, whether in sin, sadness, or sufferring and everything in between.

If we see God rightly, we will always run to Him.

The Christian faith is built on confession and meditation.

Confession of who God is.

Confession of who we are outside of Christ.

Confession of who we are in Christ.

Confession of our sins.

Confession of our faith, and more importantly, confession of who our faith is in.

Because He is faithful when we are faithless.

But the Christian faith is also built on meditation.

But true meditation is NOT emptying the mind.

Biblical meditation fills the mind with the Word of the Lord and fixes the mind on God.

Mainly, on who the King of glory is.

It keeps our eyes on Christ and not on self.

Psalm 1 says the blessed man delights in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night.

So take a minute.

Pray.

Think deeply on what you know of Christ, what He has commanded, and what He is worthy of.

Then answer this:

What will you do today to glorify and worship Christ who died for you?

Drop your answer in the comments below and then share this, challenging another brother/sister in Christ to think about rightly worshipping and glorifying God today! taken in Aledo, Texas by @builtready

Can I get an AMEN?!?!

If you think on this quote rightly, and rightly means biblically, and you continue to fix your mind on this kind of love, you will find that this is the only love that will ever truly satisfy a man’s soul.

If you look at the cross of Christ and do not see this kind of love for you, meaning you do not see that you cheat on Christ every single day, then you have not yet learned Christ and Christ crucified rightly.
