Currently the world’s northernmost fashion designer!

It was such a risk taking on the challenge of making waterproof, insulated jackets for @tonijz and myself for our trip to Svalbard. I can, however, confirm that they were both a success as first prototypes. I’d love to tweak a few elements to make them even easier to wear, so we’ll call these the “initial samples.”
-
I found this wonderful deadstock ripstop fabric for Toni’s jacket, and a coated cotton for mine, at @simplyfabricsbrixton .

I’ll be here at the @artinthedocks gallery space until 16:00 today. Come talk to me about sustainable fashion and what you can do to stop killing the planet one @sheinofficial dress at a time. Also, come admire the pieces I made from third hand denim waste, all of which are for sale.

So you don’t know the difference between a fibre and a weave and it’s got you all clogged?
-
Fibre, unlike your last panic buy from @hollandandbarrett , refers to the composition of the fabric.
-
The weave, not referring to @beyonce iconic 2023 Grammys honey blonde mermaid waves, referred to the way those fibres interlock to create the fabrics structure.
-
Silk and wool refer to the fabrics composition whereas charmeuse and jacquard refer to how the fibres are engineered to create the fabrics structure.

Riga Fashion Week

@evaslez - Wearing a Buiseid silk dress made with zero waste.
@tonijz - Wearing a bespoke Buiseid suite made with deadstock from @simplyfabricsbrixton

My first outfit featured shorts that I made from paper colour catchers and a crochet balaclava made by my mother.
My second outfit is a brown wool two piece thatI made from some donated wool and a shit tonne of hand sewing.

I had the luxury of seeing some incredible collections by designers who really had something to say. They were the first collections I’ve seen featured on a runway which in conjunction with wearing my own designs made it a very special moment!

Pad stitching got you in a predicament?
-
Pad stitching is used through most tailored jackets to create structure and rigidity. Although you don’t see any of its complexities because they’re hidden behind the shell fabric, it’s played a vital roll in a jackets construction.
-
As a freelance pattern cutter / tailor it’s important to keep evolving and perfecting techniques even when that genre might not be your ‘bread and butter’. I often get asked to make bespoke tailored jackets so it’s imperative to keep myself fresh and nimble!

2026 marks the 10 year anniversary of my first collection in collaboration with textile artist @riffa_bysharifa
-
In my second year of university, Sharifa reached out to me to make her a couple of dresses from some of her printed fabric. Once our course leads caught wind of this they encouraged us to enter into the running for Graduate Fashion Week. After presenting a couple of looks to the board, we were selected to participate in the showcase and were offered the opening position!

10 years on and many many garments later, this collection is a reminder of what real passion and enjoyment can achieve! Making clothes is my favourite thing to do, very few things bring me that much joy and being able to share my passion with other people is a privilege! by @buiseid

“Thanks it’s custom”
-
A slightly delayed bespoke dress for my sister @cmollentze ‘s birthday.
-
I used deadstock fabric from @simplyfabricsbrixton for the base of the dress and dyed a bunch of vintage cotton lace black that I’ve been collecting. I added some tonal buttons to add a third element to the texture.
-
The only requirements I was given from Cherie were that she wanted an everyday dress that was green and adjustable. To achieve that I added two strap adjusters on either side of the waist to allow expansion and restriction on the under bust and waist when needed.

What goes into making a bespoke Buiseid dress.
-
For the exceptional and exquisite @eviereece2
-
1. The design is discussed and fabric choices made.
2. An initial pattern is made and a toile* is fitted to the client to confirm the fit. *A toile is a version of the garment in inexpensive fabric and unfinished seams.
3. Any changes to the toile are made to the pattern so that work on the final garment can begin.
4. Sometime the construction of the garment is organic and there can be multiple mannequin sessions to suss out the order of assembly.
5. Sometimes at this stage it’s preferable to have another fitting with the client in the final cloth to make sure it’s reacting in the way it’s meant to.
6. BAM! You have a garment. Sometimes there would also be further fittings with the client if the item had areas of concern but in this case for Evie, one fitting was enough.

Who is getting a custom look next? 👀 by @buiseid

Meeting Abigail from @thelastdinnerparty really was a treat! Everyone was lovely during the fitting and although this tuxedo wasn’t worn during their tour in the end, the whole experience was such a highlight! Thank you @lilbeaurae for asking me to get involved and I hope we get to collaborate again soon! 🖤

The fabric is dead stock from @simplyfabricsbrixton and the buttons, threads and canvassing are all from waste bins and charity shops (as per usual). by @buiseid
