it’s been about 5 months since i moved back to san francisco after living in tokushima, japan for one year!

i made this postcard to submit to a contest among the ALTs living there, where the winning postcard would be printed and handed out to everybody. i ended up winning second, which made me so happy because i had never submitted my art for any type of contest before! i felt so proud that people voted for and liked my work.

the photo in the middle is one i took on my first trip to iya valley, where i really felt tokushima’s beauty for the first time. it was so different to live in a rural place since i grew up in LA and lived in SF for so long, but it led me to appreciate everything tokushima had to offer. the frame around the photo features some of the iconic sites and symbols from tokushima: sudachi citrus, naruto bridge/whirpools, awa dance, and tokushima ramen. the text is from tony bennett’s song “i left my heart in san francisco,” which i felt combined my longing to return home to sf with my love and appreciation for tokushima.

i’m so relieved to be home with my partner and cat and friends and community, but of course i miss the adventures i went on back in japan. 2024 and 2025 were years in transition where i was able to think deeply about what i wanted for my future, so 2026 will be about securing that future for myself and my family (my partner and cat). sorry to be #VulnerableOnMain but this is my art account so it’s all vulnerable anyways. by @bukowrld

the original illustration comes from a poster made by a women’s liberation screen printer in 1982. i’ve been reading a lot on queer history lately and thought it’d be fun to redraw this iconic creature 🐈‍⬛<3 by @bukowrld

i got top surgery a few days ago!!!!!!

while on recovery, i digitized this piece that i made at sketchies the night before my surgery. i’ve reworked this design sooo many times, with different people and words and details, but seeing it as me really feels like the final product.

i’m so grateful that i was able to get this life saving gender affirming surgery. i grappled with myself for years over it, and there were many points where i thought it would never happen. it took a lot of self reflection to realize that the only person holding myself back was me (and the American medical system).

thanks to everyone who’s been supportive in my recovery. transition is truly a gift we give to ourselves — but not without the help of our chosen family and friends 🏳️‍⚧️🫶🏼 by @bukowrld

why do colors look different on my ipad than they do on my phone than they do on instagram??? >:( anybody else wish they were one of those shrimp that sees like 1000 more colors than humans do maybe then you’d be able to see how much better this looked on my ipad 🫶🏼🧍🏻

not to be vulnerable but i’ve been going through it recently and sometimes you just have to cry it out and realize things will get better soon. and i hate #gender i am going to eliminate #gender with a jackhammer 🏄🏽 by @bukowrld

hey!

so today was my first time ever tabling at an event! it’s been my dream to vend for years and it was everything i could’ve dreamed of. i met so many amazing artists and people, i sold out of tons of stuff, i even made my first sale before the doors officially opened :,)

i’ve been in a slump recently due to starting my first full-time job and just having an overall sense of art block. this really reinvigorated my sense of pride in my art. i was completely floored that anyone would want to purchase something i made!! it’s a feeling that i’ll never forget.
