Today marks the start of BULP 2026-27 season.

All points have been reset, and we are looking forward to seeing where this season takes us. The response from the community last season was really rewarding, and we have no plans of stopping.

At the end of the season league champions take home £1k cash, and a brand new ELEIKO competition barbell.

Points can be earned by placing well either at team, or individual events sanctioned under IPF/British Powerlifting.

You can find out more about points and event types on bulp.uk/league-points

BULP Presents: League Points

Every university team has the chance to earn points throughout the season - and the goal is simple: earn the most points to become League Champion.

There are two types of League Points:

Team Points - the highest-value points, awarded when a club places highly or wins at university championships. Each event is ranked by level: BUCS, Wider Divisional, Local Divisional, 3-Way Varsity, and 2-Way Varsity.

Individual Points - earned by athletes who place well overall (men or women) at events. Best lifters are determined by GL (Goodlift) points, and awards are split into International, National, and Divisional categories.
Earn points. Climb the leaderboard. Win £1000 for your team.

It’s really easy to submit results and earn league points - but it’s important to do it correctly. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to submit your results to earn league points.

Step 1: Create a club account on bulp.uk.
We recommend using your club’s official email - it’ll make future committee transitions much easier.

Step 2: Collect your team’s most recent competition results - this can include both team and individual performances. Make sure to check our website to find out what results are acceptable to avoid your submission being rejected.

Step 3: Submit your results through the Club Portal. Once verified, your team’s points will appear on the leaderboard.

We would like to introduce a new format!

Teams are now able to “host” varsities within local/wider divisional events. The same results at these events can be used for “internal varsities” to provide additional opportunities for teams who are not able to host sanctioned varsities within the season.

CONDITIONS

- Must use “BULP varsity” ranking format (top 3 average GL)
- Only 1 varsity per team, per season
- Varsity must be agreed and communicated with BULP prior to the event
- Can either be a 2-way or 3-way varsity
- No additional entries, internal varsities must use the same results from the local/wider divisional, with a “BULP varsity ranking format” adaptation

With the inclusion of the new format, teams will now be able to earn points only from a SINGLE VARSITY event per season. Teams are able to choose whether to have an internal varsity at the local/wider divisional event, or host a standalone varsity at a different point in the season.

EXAMPLE

Loughborough and Nottingham decide to host an “internal varsity” within MUCS Winter (local divisional). Loughborough wins the internal varsity and earns league points for a 2-way varsity. Both teams then decide to host a standalone varsity later in the season. Whilst they have the right to host a varsity, neither teams will be able to earn team league points for that event (individual points are still eligible). Since the varsity points have already been awarded, teams are not able to earn additional varsity points, or change them. by @bulp.uk
