****obligatory cicada post because I'm a fucking nerd**** (pic guide at the bottom + nerd ass commentary)

i was down in Southern Indiana over the weekend catching up with family; and they recently had the emergence of the 17 year "magicada" cicada brood. y'all might be used to the ratchety rhythm of our cicadas, this was a HOWL. idk how many millions emerged from the ground this brood, but the holes in the dirt were scattered almost every square inch of the yard. as y'all can probably see, these little guys are brackish brown with red eyes, quite a bit different from the dark green ones we usually see.

i have never in my life seen so many mid-molt cicadas though .. it is a really neat progression to see real -time.

the first couple pics are just showing the raw amount of critters trying to hatch, every tree in the yard had *piles* of shells, dead cicadas, and partially molted cicadas that had fallen off or gotten injured (or had mates and were dying). Pic 3 is just showing how many were chilling on a single bush.

Pics 4-7 are a few of the mid-molt cicadas I was seeing all over. some of them will make it to the end, some will die as they fail to molt properly. Pic 8 are a couple of fully developed, adult male cicadas that will hopefully continue the cycle and then become bigger-critter-food.

Pic 9 shows an improperly molted male cicada with the Tymbal organ visible. that white thing y'all see under it's (deformed) wing is what creates the sound we all know/love/hate.

pic 10 was a cicada I found that was stuck in his shell. i actually helped him molt, but the ones that get stuck like that typically have wing issues. hopefully he still got air into his wings or he was good food for a bigger critter. by @bunk_rocker

Had a wonderful time with my family. I wish going back home didn't bum me out, but at least it means the trip was great. Wish I got some more pics though. Till next time. by @bunk_rocker

haven't really posted all summer, but all is pretty well! (aside from perpetual brokenness.) hope shit's goin well for y'all too. i'm a day shifter now, gotten back into standard tuning a bit again, and I need to wrench my cars more. to eat up more space, here's my current plans for the shitboxes:

Vibe(daily): (true) cold air intake, weld muffler, intake man. gasket, cooling system, alternator, rear brakes, mayb RAV4 suspension, mayb slightly snappier coils and injectors. Not sure how long I'll be abusing this thing, but an overhaul of the braking system would be nice.

Yota: brake booster, valve cover gaskets, plugs/wires, mayb distributor, front shocks, sway bar links, suspension bushings, turn signals, rear axle seals & brakes, ball joints, repair LCA (would like to go solid axle but not doing that this year).

Hyundai: boost Alpha II until failure, swap in maybe a 1zz or manual Tiburon (Beta) powertrain. New rotors. Gut most of interior. Cut springs on turbo build, install coilovers on swapped build if it makes it that far.

🅱️altima: gut interior, chop roof after center supports, lift suspension with spacer blocks, give spacers and Pathfinder wheels, make fast fast FAST. Not sure if it'll be F.I. or just bolt on, either way the KA24 will be livin like Larry. This will hopefully be run in a Gambler 500.

and then after I wreck those two it's BRZ or Z3 time. by @bunk_rocker

yew, 2023 was a year.. good one honestly; & I can say that without lying. could probably sit and think and write a whole novel on what all went down, but I won't put yall thru that. good homies, good times, tl;dr. goin into '24 with no resolutions other than riffs, RPMs, some gains, and stayin pretty for u mfs. cheers. by @bunk_rocker

Had an unbelievably fun and wholesome time this Thanksgiving, couldn't have asked for much more (than maybe a lil weed) honestly. Hug ur folks while you still can :) taken in Excellence Punta Cana by @bunk_rocker
