Sometimes I get lucky! In a tiny village in Alsace, I discovered a magnificent 1,000-year-old church. The village itself had almost nothing in it—just two wine shops and this massive church.Inside, the Romanesque church is decorated with beautiful neo-Gothic paintings. But the real highlight for me was the body of a catacomb saint: Saint Charitina. Unfortunately, catacomb saints in France are covered in wax, so you can't see the actual skeleton. by @burgdame

Vienne, just south of Lyon, is one of France’s oldest cities! Founded by the Romans, it’s filled with ancient Roman ruins and beautiful medieval buildings everywhere you look.@villedevienne by @burgdame

Have a look at this beautiful vineyard – it's a real pleasure to buy the wine where. Over the centuries, the castle was home to prominent French noble families, starting with Humbert de Francheleins and later the de Laye family, who rebuilt it in the 15th century. Generations of aristocrats lived there, gradually transforming the medieval fortress into an elegant Renaissance residence. Since 1984, the estate has belonged to the Richard family, who preserve the historic castle and manage its winery. by @burgdame

Notre-Dame de Fourvière is absolutely magnificent. From its splendid architecture watching over the city to the breathtaking, golden mosaics inside, every detail is pure magic. Built by public donations between 1872 and 1884, this magnificent landmark took 12 years to complete. by @burgdame

Walking with the undead in Lyon! Today I explored "Zombies, the origins" at the Musée des Confluences. It takes you way back before the movies, straight to the roots of Haitian voodoo and history. by @burgdame

Sweating buckets on the mountain trail yesterday, but walking through 800 years of history made it worth it.Changed the modern world for the medieval ruins of Saint-Ulrich, Girsberg, and Haut-Ribeaupierre. A scorching hike, but those endless views across the Alsace vineyards are unbeatable. by @burgdame

In the "Häuptlingsgruft" (chiefs' crypt) beneath the St. Bartholomäus Church in Dornum lie the historical remains of the regional ruling family von Closter. These baroque wooden coffins are roughly 300 to 430 years old, holding burials that took place between 1595 and 1728. by @burgdame

This beautiful castle is the Castle Aurich. It was built between 1851 and 1855 for King George V of Hanover! It sits on the historic site of an old 1448 moated fortress and was once the royal residence of East Frisia.In 1744, the young Prince Carl Edzard died here suddenly at just 28 years old right after drinking a glass of cold buttermilk.He was the last of his royal line. Powerful rulers like Frederick the Great already had secret papers ready to take over the land the exact moment the prince died!Was it an innocent illness, or a royal assassination? History still doesn't know. Today, the castle is used as a local government building. by @burgdame
