This is a photo taken by @maknovamusic back in 2020 when she lived in the tree house and worked tirelessly on her album every day. She, bre and I would meet every week to commune together and write share. Black women creatives are my constant medicine. After this weekend watching/admiring mak perform her album release sold out show. I wept like a baby. All the work done from then to now. All these bi POC visionaries in Santa Cruz just…. living, advocating out here and in a place that tried so hard to remove all traces of melatonin. we continue to find our way back and share our gifts; humbly. Affirmation – A poem by Assata Shakur
I believe in living.
I believe in the spectrum
of Beta days and Gamma people.
I believe in sunshine.
In windmills and waterfalls,
tricycles and rocking chairs.
And i believe that seeds grow into sprouts.
And sprouts grow into trees.
I believe in the magic of the hands.
And in the wisdom of the eyes.
I believe in rain and tears.
And in the blood of infinity.
I believe in life.
And I have seen the death parade
march through the torso of earth,
sculpting mud bodies in its path.
I have seen the destruction of the daylight,
and seen bloodthirsty maggots
prayed and saluted.
I have seen the kind become the blind
and the blind become the bind
in one easy lesson.
I have walked on cut glass.
I have eaten crow and blunder bread
and breathed the stench of indifference.
I have been locked by the lawless.
Handcuffed by the haters.

All the planets, all the feelings, all the wins and losses. All the lovers and lessons. All the moments where I wonder "what the heck am I doing here again??!" Today I was in probably the worst traffic all year , dehydrated, hungry and sweating beyond belief. The undeniable Fear, doubt, am I doing everything completely wrong thoughts flooded their way through my breaths. Alas! This photo came to me once my phone took a break from overheating. In the midst of all this, LOVE found me. The past present continuum found me yet again. From these eyes to yours. From this tub of lovers/friends/sisters/humans/energy to your screen. the momentum, it sings "i love you keep going, I love you keep going, I love you keep going." It's here, it's all around us all the time, it is always within reach. Thursday May 21 PBH is starting off @sunset_cultural_center third Thursday at Devendorf park. Opener starts at 4pm. PBH plays from 5-7pm. We have a full rock n roll set for you to jump us off into these long summer days! Come to Carmel-by-the seas legendary farmers market. Sunday February 1, 2026. Black history was made. Thank you and zillions of hugs and kisses to @infiniteyayah for being the master mind and bringing @iamqueenreborn and @genoabrown and myself all together. Thank you to the all the members of the house band and to @santacruzrecording for hosting us and being the sound geniuses you are; I am eternally grateful. And to all who made this night what it was with your contribution, your hearts open; the room was filled to the brim of that glorious energy and made this night what it was, a milestone in Santa Cruz. Here’s a little snippet of my invocation given at the end of my performance (the full night concert will be edited and released by next month) and a collaborative hug by all the performers basking in our joy and excitement.
