Surgery is officially complete and successful.
It wasn’t without its challenges though.

✔️ Full ACL reconstruction
✔️ MCL sprain
✔️ Rare radial tear of the lateral meniscus (found during surgery)
✔️ LCL instability that needed additional stabilization to support my return to play

Because of the meniscus damage, I’ll be on strict bed rest and non-weight bearing on my right leg for the next 6 weeks. Not the outcome I hoped for, but setbacks are simply just part of this process, and I’m ready for it.

Time to focus up and take this recovery process one day and one step at a time.
Stay tuned for updates as I attack this long road back.

Progress, not perfection.

6 months post-op officially hit this past Tuesday, which meant it was finally time to start running again.

A couple reps of sprint circuit work today totaled 1.2 miles in 8:07. I definitely had more in the tank, but the brace felt pretty restrictive. Looking forward to ditching it the second I’m cleared to. taken in Vero Beach, Florida by @burton_strength

Sneak peek into what a day of eating looks like from breakfast, lunch, pre-workout, and dinner!

After plenty of carbs and not nearly enough protein during my five weeks in Italy, it’s been great to be back stateside eating real portions of eggs, fish, and quality meats.

Lately I’ve been following more of an animal-based approach, keeping carbs pretty low unless I’ve got a heavy leg day or another workout that calls for them. The biggest thing I’ve learned is how much food you can actually eat while keeping calories in check when you’re sticking to whole foods.

Most days I’m around 220–240g of protein, 80–100g of fat, and 180g of carbs or less, which puts me at roughly 2,400 calories a day. With multiple training sessions and the amount of calories I’m burning daily, that’s kept me in a consistent deficit.

After just one week, I’m already feeling better, recovering faster, training harder, and starting to drop the extra fat and bloat.

Week 1 down. 5 to go until the boys are back.

Little idea of the things I was doing in Italy!

15k+ steps daily between lots of walking, light jogging, hiking, and navigating uneven cobblestone streets. It definitely played a big role in my recovery. All of the uneven terrain also helped challenge my ankle strength, stability, and balance.

Along with that, I was able to stay consistent with PT on my knee and get plenty of hamstring and quad work in. Even with limited equipment, I made the best of what I had!

Glad to be home and excited to keep putting in the work! taken in Ulysse Wellness Sorrento by @burton_strength

Last lift at home before shipping off to Sorrento, Italy for 6 weeks.

Crazy to think I’ve hit the 4-month mark post-surgery and am able to squat with solid mobility, depth, and limited pain. A step like this has made me appreciate how far I’ve come, but it also reminds me of how far I still am from my return to play.

I keep reminding myself that strength comes before speed and agility, and that it will all come together in time. Right now, it’s about staying patient, and trusting the process.

Looking forward to staying active, continuing the rehab journey, and experiencing a whole new part of the world over the next six weeks. 🇮🇹💪

15 Weeks. 107 Days. Nearly 4 months.

Focused every day on getting the muscle to come back and continuing to improve extension. Super pumped to have found a new home gym and PT center here in Florida. Back in the weight room big time and attacking a busy summer of rehab, training, and preparation for next season.

Sick first leg workout out here in Richmond. It might hurt, but it feels good to be back.

30-minute elliptical – 3.4 miles total
2x10 quad extensions (30 lbs each)
2x8 front lunges each leg (30 lb water bag)
2x8 reverse lunges each leg (30 lb water bag)
2x8 slider side lunges each leg
2x8 single-leg box squats each leg (10 lb med ball)

I was dog tired at the end and extremely sore too. My knee held up fine, but my patellar tendon was definitely sore and sensitive after, which is expected. I’ll probably tone it back a bit moving forward, knowing this all takes time.

Still, it feels really good to be back moving again with the legs.
