During my set opening for Digable Planets, I made sure @moemawnaedon got his cardio in while we rocked our joint “VG+”. We got more of this energy in store for yall soon. Thanks for rocking with me, big dawg! (And for the @soulslimerecords tank..cause it was hot AF in there!) taken in Mr. Smalls Theatre by @buscrates

I kinda like this configuration for my sets. Roland P-6 is an important piece of the puzzle, it’s probably my favorite for chopping and processing drums.

Got some more ideas with this setup, will report back soon. taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @buscrates

Spent a lot of time playing trial and error last night. My goal what just to find what works for me and what doesn’t. What I find does work best and is most reliable is my MPC3000. On this, I have it sequencing everything except my Moog Grandmother. Even my iPad apps (shoutout to @audiokitpro & @koalasampler ) are locked in here.

The little tape draggy thing is this new AUv3 app called Deriva Tape Machine. I think it just dropped last night (yes, I’m an Appoholic and I need help😂)

Excited to see what else I come up with in this new workflow I got going. taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @buscrates

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 7TH / 7-11PM / $5-$20 ALL AGES AT BANTHA TEA BAR

SWEET ABYSS is back yet again for some flourishes of autumnal glamour in the post-equinox glow 🎃✨🪩

We’re happy to welcome Pittsburgh’s own purveyor of dance-powered synthesis Shawn Rudiman for a special live set touching upon his love of industrial, downtempo, sci-fi ambience, & more!!! @rudiman.shawn

Renowned worldwide for his unique live performances of Detroit-inflected hi-tech funk, Shawn’s music has been synonymous with rustbelt machine music for the better part of 4 decades, releasing beloved records on Technoir Audio, 7th City, Detroit Techno Milita, Pittsburgh Tracks, & beyond, honing in on his dedication to electric communion with machine, audience, & self.
We can’t wait hear what he’ll bring to the entrancing confines of Bantha Tea Bar…

Equally synonymous with Pittsburgh in the worlds of hip hop, funk, & deep house, Buscrates will perform a special groovy, funky, & spacey experimental collab set with Daia! @buscrates @daiaart_

As a musician, DJ and producer, Buscrates has been making music in some form since practically before he could walk and started rocking parties behind the decks since he was in single digits. Initially inspired early on by the music emanating from his father’s sound system, his sound encompasses many experiences as he has honed the two major poles of his musical inspiration: classic boom-bap hip-hop and the endlessly colorful world of synth-crazy post-disco boogie-funk!

Daia has been heard all around Pittsburgh organizing & performing at gatherings bridging gaps between dance, noise, & anything goes sonic expansions in various guises. We’re elated to hear how they close out the night in this expansive duo

resident Damsel of Distress @kiernanlaveaux will be serenading the early listeners of the night with vibrational patterns for a new world b/w songs to fan the flames of discontent + visuals by resident daddy @jmal_malzof

Sweet Abyss is an event to center people that have run afoul of societal expectations playing a wide variety of fun, strange, rhythmic sounds to dance or move their minds to.

Making music is fun, but it’s even more fun when my niece @leilarhodesmusic stops by the crib. We’re working on a song she has in progress. Good times! taken in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania by @buscrates
