It took us a long, long time, but the new Bus Gas album “Mercy View” is finally emerging from the fog. Over the course of two winters, we would retreat to a decrepit 1960s cabin on the rural Washington coast to write and record this new batch of music. These songs feel as lonely and damp as the cold grey ocean spray and rusty foliage that surrounded and permeated us. @amuletsmusic visited for several days to bless us with some tape loops and trumpet-esque guitar parts. As always, @ianaeillo oversaw the effort of turning hours and hours of broken and haunted nonsense into living, breathing songs.

I know we say this every time, but this truly feels the best collection of music that we have ever summoned. It feels like we have finally found the ghost that has been haunting us for years.

Perhaps the most amazing is part is that after almost 18 years of being a band/collective, we are finally lucky enough to be releasing our music on vinyl on March 28th. Infinite love to @wespeakinpoems and @alaskantapes for making this happen. Songs are streaming in all the streaming places and the vinyl is available on Bandcamp.

While it may seem like we have been slumbering the last few years, we’ve actually been busy skulking and sneaking up and down the rural Washington coast, collecting all manner of noises, drones, and echoes and building them into a new collection of songs.

We’re excited to share the first of these new songs with you! “Fraught House” is a rumbling, buzzing void that slowly grows into a mossy heartbreak. It is now streaming anywhere that music can be strum (streamed?).

We just got our hands on an early prototype of @amuletsmusic’s upcoming MVS-1 variable speed tape loop player, and boy howdy, y’all are gonna want to get ahold of one of these. He has a mailing list about the upcoming release, so go and sign your John Hancock. If anyone needs us, we’ll be chopping and screwing beats in the weightless dark of space for the foreseeable future.

BEHOLD THIS BEAUTY! Our dear friend @brettpstenson was invited to contribute to the 10x18 Project, where thirty three designers visually interpret their yearly top ten list, and he decided that our companion album with @amuletsmusic was his third favorite album of the year! He took our tape and wove it around the most dizzyingly beautiful wilderness imaginable. We would be honored to drone in the church of nature.

The tastemakers of all things experimental and eclectic @acloserlisten have wisely decreed our companion albums with @amuletsmusic to be one of the best looking cassettes of the year, an honor which we owe entirely to the dozen or so friends who contributed their art to the project. We are lucky.
