Guest ✨ Assistant ✨ Student Spending the day at Shamara Roper’s masterclass was one of those full-circle moments. We went right back to the foundations — the same techniques that shaped her early years and STILL create iconic work today. It was a real reminder that when technique meets artistry… that’s where the magic lives. Even as an assistant, hearing the why behind everything hit differently. Understanding the thought process, not just the execution, is what really bridges the gap from assisting to leading. We learnt how agency like @archtheagency work and team being there to answer questions was an instrumental. What I loved most? We didn’t just watch — we DID. Every look was hands-on, collaborative, and pushed you to physically understand what’s being asked of you in real time. Finished it all off by creating our own final looks with custom headpieces (and yes, taking them home 😌), plus the best goodie bags. Met some amazing Instagram faces in real life, made genuine connections, and within days we were already supporting each other with work — that’s what it’s about. I’m so honoured to be featured as @boholocs Stylist Spotlight of the Month 🩷 For a long time, I’ve heard people speak about my work in so many ways—but I’ve never quite felt like I translated well on paper. So seeing myself written about so clearly, by people I’ve never even met, truly warmed my heart. The way my journey, my approach to hair, and my creative practice were captured and validated on paper… it honestly brought me to tears in the middle of the street. To everyone who has come to me for Boho Locs installs—thank you. This moment wouldn’t have been possible without you 🩷 It feels full circle because I’ve genuinely been rocking with this brand in the shadows for years. I remember when it was just conversations over here, while already making serious noise in the States. When it finally became available to us, it felt like we were stepping into that wider shift in how faux locs and protective styling were being seen. What stood out immediately was the intention behind the product—locs that are fun, easy to install, and actually designed to work with the thickness and reality of our hair, not against it. Being able to loop through properly, without compromise, was everything. As stylists working closely with textured hair, I think I can say we deeply value products created with real understanding and intention. @finalchecksacademy first Advanced Afro Hair Workshop… and I’m still thinking about it 🫶🏾 Thank you to everyone who came through with such good energy — it honestly made the whole day. We got into techniques, refined understanding, tested products/theories — but the best part? The moments. Someone did their first ever cornrows. I met an internet industry friend in real life. Knowledge from that room is travelling overseas. And there were conversations that really shifted how people see their coworkers in this industry. Yeah… it was more than a workshop. I love being in spaces like this… Love throwing on my DET hat - sharing what I know, connecting, and seeing everything click for people in real time.
