On 4 November 2026, Capetonians head to the polls for the Local Government Elections.

In the lead-up, Bush Radio is hosting a series of interviews and debates with political parties and independent candidates contesting in the City of Cape Town.

Why? So candidates can state their case, and you can get the information you need to make an informed decision.

No hype. No sensationalism. Just the facts, in plain words. Straight talk, so you can make your own choice.

Stay tuned to Bush Radio 89.5FM or listen online at www.bushradio.co.za

When families change, children should not have to carry the conflict.

What happens to children when parents separate or divorce? And when parents disagree, who makes sure the child's best interests stay at the centre?

Join us on Sakhisizwe - Building the Nation - Bou die Nasie for an important conversation on family law, custody and divorce, and what these legal processes mean for children.

* What the law says about custody and parental responsibilities
* How parents can navigate difficult legal processes
* How to protect children from conflict and make informed decisions
* How to recognise when a child may be at risk of harm

This is about more than courts and legal documents. It's about families, children, and what happens when relationships change.

Fresh voices, big futures! This week we welcomed Zayn Sukha, a Grade 10 learner from Reddam House Durbanville, to Bush Radio for job shadowing.

Zayn got a behind-the-scenes look at life in community radio and what it takes to put great content on air. We loved having this curious, enthusiastic young person in the studio, and we can't wait to see where his journey takes him!

Thank you, Zayn, for spending time with us.

Watch: "Kaaps Rys Soes Vêtkoek Dieg"

Cape Town-born poet and author Peter Daniels, also known as PeeDee, performs his poem "Kaaps Rys Soes Vêtkoek Dieg". It's a celebration of language, identity and the stories that make us who we are.

Peter grew up in Elsies River and is now based in Pretoria. He's back in Cape Town this Heritage Month for a series of engagements around his latest book, a collection of 100 poems written in Kaaps.

More Than Poetry

This book goes beyond words on a page. It explores identity, heritage, community, faith, struggle and belonging, and the everyday experiences of people whose stories haven't always found space in formal literary circles.

Book Launch

Shofar Books, Kuils River
Heritage Day, 24 September 2026

Come celebrate Kaaps, celebrate community, and celebrate a voice that speaks from the heart of the Cape Flats.

Your Turn

What does Kaaps mean to you? Tell us in the comments.
