The graduates who daydreamed most about their dream job got fewer offers and lower pay two years later.

That’s from a 2002 study by Gabriele Oettingen and Doris Mayer, tracking 83 German graduates. The explanation: picturing a win feels like progress, so the urge to actually act goes quiet.

That’s why the last slide says what it says. Changing how you read “nobody cares” is the easy half. It only counts if something moves afterward.

Oettingen’s fix is called mental contrasting: picture the win, then picture the exact thing most likely to stop you, then decide what you’ll do when it shows up.

Sometimes the conversation between men and women gets turned into a competition who cares less, who has more power, who should chase, who should text first, who is “better,” and who is supposed to win. But love was never meant to be a battlefield.

Not every man is the same. Not every woman is the same. One bad relationship, one betrayal, one rejection, or one painful experience does not become a universal rule for everyone you meet afterward. People are individuals, not stereotypes.

You can have standards without hating the opposite sex. You can know your worth without putting someone else down. You can walk away from unhealthy behaviour without turning an entire gender into an enemy. And you can protect your peace without becoming emotionally unavailable or permanently defensive.

Dating shouldn’t be a competition. “Never chase.” “Never text first.” “Make them jealous.” “Make them prove themselves.” “Who has the upper hand?”

Somewhere along the way, genuine connection started getting replaced by strategies, games, pride, and fear.
A healthy relationship isn’t about who has more power. It’s about two people choosing to understand each other. Two people communicating instead of manipulating. Two people respecting boundaries instead of testing them. Two people choosing loyalty instead of keeping score. Two people building something together instead of constantly trying to win against each other.
