The City of Frederick Department of Economic Development joined communities from across Maryland for this year’s Main Street Maryland Conference in Hagerstown, connecting with downtown professionals, economic development leaders and community partners from throughout the state.

The conference featured engaging breakout sessions, conversations on downtown revitalization and several opportunities to explore Main Street communities firsthand. One of three tour options offered during the conference was a Sykesville tour, highlighting the community’s approach to preservation, placemaking and downtown development. DED was also represented on stage, with one of the department’s specialists serving as the conference emcee.

The Main Street Maryland Conference provides an opportunity to bring ideas back to Frederick, share what is working in other communities and strengthen connections with the professionals helping shape Maryland’s downtowns. Next year the conference will be held in Baltimore! #mainstreetmaryland by @businessinfrederick

New investment is taking shape in West Frederick with Summervale, a new residential community by D.R. Horton near Old National Pike and Mount Phillip Road. The approximately 97-acre development is planned for 296 homesites, with a mix of single-family homes and townhomes ranging from approximately 1,763 to 3,233 square feet. The community will also include green space, walking paths, playgrounds, a garden, picnic areas and a dog park.

Beyond adding new housing options, Summervale represents continued investment in Frederick’s growth and infrastructure. Located less than a mile from I-70, the community connects residents to Downtown Frederick, regional employment centers, businesses and services. The project reflects years of planning and coordination among D.R. Horton Maryland/West Virginia, Summers Family, LLLP and Rodgers Consulting, and the City welcomes this new development to the Golden Mile. Congratulations!
