If you've walked through the doors of Talbot at any point over the last 32 years, chances are, you know Mary.

Mary Murphy-Phillips, assistant dean of students, has personally counseled hundreds of students along their SPH journeys, from giving advice on how to find housing to how to access healthcare. As we continue to celebrate SPH's 50th Anniversary, staff writer Megan Jones spoke with Mary and other long-time SPH staffers about the School's evolution, and each of their personal journeys as SPH community members.

Two 2025 heat waves were associated with more than 13,000 emergency department visits across 19 states.

🚨PHP fellowship applications are now OPEN!🚨

The search for our next team of passionate Public Health Post fellows is officially ON! Fellows are on-campus MPH students graduating in January 2028 or later who spend a year cultivating their public health writing and communication skills. Fellowships are open to BUSPH students only.

Interested? You do not need a writing background to apply! You are an ideal candidate if:
✅ You are interested in increasing awareness about pressing public health topics.
✅ You are passionate about making health information accessible for all.
✅ You are excited about advancing your communication skills.

We offer two year-long fellowship tracks: Writing and Multimedia. All fellows work approximately 10 hours per week and receive a stipend of $10,400, paid out weekly. Fellowships run from February 1, 2027, to January 31, 2028.

How can we better understand and prevent Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias? 🧠

Three @bostonu researchers, Maria Glymour, Andrew Stokes, and Deborah Carr, have received a $2.8 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to launch BU-SHARP, a new center focused on the social, environmental, and health factors that shape dementia risk.

The center will bring together researchers across disciplines to study populations disproportionately affected by ADRD and develop new approaches to prevention and healthy cognitive aging.
