Meet the maker. Lots of new followers so here’s a bit about me and Buster and Coco.

I’m Carol, a city girl transplanted to the country 21 years ago when I married. I moved from a bustling city of 200,000 to a sleepy town of 1,400. The transition was hard, but now I wouldn’t have it any other way, maybe I was always a country girl at heart!

I fell into rope sewing, literally, after doing a class at CWA making bowls out of plants and reeds and fronds from the garden. Whilst I loved the process of creating the bowl, I hated the mess and dirt. This lead me on a path of discovery to rope and the sewing machine and I was hooked. Buster and Coco was established in 2017. My dream had come true!

It’s about you! In starting my business my aim was simple – to make functional and colourful rope and textile accessories for your home. I want YOU to be that person who has something truly unique and others want to know “where on earth did you get that”, and you can smile knowing you have something really wonderful. And whilst looking beautiful, everything I make needs to have a purpose. Coasters and mats to save your precious furniture; bowls and baskets to clear table tops of clutter and hold the car keys or loose change or fruit or scones, the uses are endless.  My motto is simple. Life is short – use all the good things. Don’t be like my grandma and grandpa who “saved” the good things to use for another day – that day never comes. Bring joy to your home with colour and textile and functionality. 
Oh and before I go, just a loving nod to the two women who instilled in me my love of craft. I learnt to knit at the knee of my grandma Ivy and crochet was taught to me by my Great Aunt Lil. How I must thank them for this love of creation. Though back in those childhood days I would wind that yarn so tight that the plastic sticks would break much to both their despair. Thankfully those days have long since passed and I am meticulous in my sewing and stitches and colour choices now.

We played hooky mid-week and we went to Geelong to see the ‘Discovering the Impressionists’ exhibition. To say we were both blown away is an understatement. Bravo to Geelong Art Gallery for an amazing display.

No hot glue used in these babies. The coils are sewn on by hand (and thimble to push that sucker through)!!

Loving this golden ochre dye used on this rope. Getting more stock happening. Christmas is coming!.

It’s been a big weekend just past so to catch you up.

Terang Makers Early Christmas Market on Saturday was a big success. Once again Mike joined forces with me and his spurtles literally walked out the door.

My Santa bowl I was testing the water with, both on offer sold in the first hour (now to hit the dyepots for more red rope).

It was also a test trial for the new upright shelves Mike made for me and they sure passed the test. Instructions online courtesy of @thecrochetcarpenter thank you so much. Just had to do some conversions to metric and I wanted it 1 metre wide. Worked perfectly. Go check him out.

Mike and I had a ball and more importantly I learnt heaps. As well as being a vendor I was on the organising side of this particular market with the amazing dynamo Anne Gready of Greediebird. Loved every moment. Thanks to the locals that came and supported, it was Christmas themed and it was great.

There’s been a bit of snippety snip snip, measuring twice cutting once with the guillotine (no missing fingers whew!), stringing and bagging more of my very popular Santa tags today. Magic for the kiddies waking up Christmas morning with a pressie from Santa, not to mention work/office/family Secret Santa’s.

Getting ready for the Christmas rush and of course for the upcoming Terang Makers Early Christmas market.

And before anyone asks 🙂 I started making these before AI was even a thing at least in the world I live in. All fonts and elements used purchased for commercial use by me.

All set up and ready to go. Terang Makers Market. Civic Hall 9am to 1pm. Weather is great have a stroll down the Main Street and a market visit. Perfect.

When it’s so cold and blustery outside it’s kinda hard to think Christmassy. But it’s that time right now when makers are buckling down and revving their engines getting Christmas themed items made. Buster and Coco included.

Making more of these handy bowls and loving that rich red and candy cane coloured rope I dyed.

If you’re thinking of putting a few items together for a gift, instead of a box that will be thrown away, use a bowl as a hamper base. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
